GP Trickle From Beginning Idea

Perhaps each leader could be given a "major" trait that is more characteristic for the leader, and then have the palace earn 1 GP a turn for a leader that matches that leader.

For example, if we decided Roosevelt is more industrious than organized, then we give FDR 1 Great Enginner point each turn from the palace. So it'd look something like this:

Industrious - Great Engineer point
Financial - Great Merchant
Philosophical - Great Scientist
Creative - Great Artist
Spiritual - Great Prophet
Expansive - Great Doctor
Aggressive - Great General
Organized - Great Statesman

Just a thought. I don't want it to be too overpowered, but it would be nice if a leader's traits made that civ more likely to develop a leader that corresponds. Creative leaders should, in theory spawn more great artists. Of course I really hate overpowered mods, they are too unbalancing. So just 1 GP a turn in one city shouldn't be too bad.

And if people think it is too powerful/unbalanced, we could make it so that 1 point only is applied if there are other GP points in that same category already being produced. So industrial leaders couldn't get their engineer point right away, they'd have to have a forge or pyramids or something first.

But its just a thought. I've no intention/ability to make it myself. But if someone wants to run with it, go for it.

I want to resurrect this thread since we can now actually create models. So what would people think about adding a new winning condition similar to the regicide feature in play the world....

So what do you guys think? Is anyone willing to work on the models and skins while I implement the code to do it?

Sweet, my old thread has been resurrected. Thanks Lopez :goodjob:

I was actually just thinking about this idea today in light of the back and forth we've been having about GPP and such.

With your new specialists it would work well to cover the other traits. Organized would be statesman, and expansive would be doctor.

However I do think that GPP right from the start is a bit problematic. At least for the great engineer points, since its pretty much guaranteeing all industrious civs a free wonder early in the game. Imagine if they used it for the Pyramids... :scared:

I still like the idea of giving a bit of a preference to a certain type of specialist depending on the leanings of the leader. Maybe we could have some trigger that would start the GPP trickle.

Either make it conditional on certain techs, like 2 out of 3 of the last techs in the ancient age, or 2 out of 3 from the start of the classical age. Or make it only kick in if other GP points are being generated.

Lets say we remove the GPP that they give. It would still be cool to have the regicide similar victory condition like in "Play the World".

Well, actually, I was thinking either that, their cities got converted to your cities or they all got converted to barbarian cities, it would be configurable of course. Another option could be for them to go to the civ that had the most influence on the city.
Other features could be to capture the leader for ransom.

Well, because I misread what you had written in your original post... That's what I get for scanning it instead of reading it. Anyways... back to your original idea...

So you are proposing that GPP points should be give for each leader trait in the civ's capital, unless it is specified in a configuration file that the points should be given only if one or more points are already being generated in the particular catagory, right?

As for the regicide feature I'll split that off into it's own post.

Ok, that's what I thought. Since that's the case can you do me a favor OzzyKP? Can you amend your original post to include all of the leader traits so it looks like:
<Leader trait> : <Great Person Point>

Thanks OzzyKP, I'll see if I can squeeze this one out today. I don't think it should be too hard.

Ozzy,

So one issue with your list... it assumes that who ever uses it will use the Great Doctor, Great Statesman and Great General or Great General Amped mod. So can you refine your list so it doesn't assume this?

Thanks

Doing a leader list doesn't work either because new civilizations are added all the time. All I need is a list matching traits to great people for the vanilla game. I am planning to allow people to customize these values in a config file.

Ok, here is a rough idea. If a leader had aggressive, organized, or expansive as a trait I automatically picked the other one. Leaders who had two of the specialist related traits (industrial, creative, financial, philosophical, or spirtual) then I picked whichever one I felt was primary for them (sometimes arbitrarily).

For Tokugawa, Gengis Khan and Julius Caesar they didn't have any of the 5 specialist related traits, so I just stuck them somewhere.

If anyone disagrees with these rankings, I'm not partial to them:

Roosevelt - Engineer
Bismark - Engineer
Napoleon - Engineer
Mahatma Gandhi - Engineer
Julius Caesar - Engineer

Saladin - Prophet
Montezuma - Prophet
Isabella - Prophet
Asoka - Prophet
Tokugawa - Prophet

Mao - Scientist
Alexander - Scientist
Peter - Scientist
Elizabeth - Science
Frederick - Scientist

Hatshepsut - Artist
Kublai Khan - Artist
Cyrus - Artist
Louis - Artist
Catherine - Artist

Victoria - Merchant
Washington - Merchant
Mansa Musa - Merchant
Huayna Capac - Merchant
Qin Shi Huang - Merchant
Genghis Khan - Merchant

So how would you decide a leader's primary trait?

Basically, a leader's primary trait would be randomly picked from the two leader traits when the game starts. How does that sound?

I suppose that could work.

There is no easy way of selecting a vanilla specialist to match up with aggressive, organized, or expansive though.

Maybe....

Organized - Engineer
Expansive - Merchant
Aggressive - Artist

?

I dunno. Or...

Organized - Merchant
Expansive - Artist
Aggressive - Scientist

Its a crap shoot.

How about this:

Organized - Engineer
Expansive - Artist - Wants everyone to view their work
Aggressive - Merchant - Wants to sell things to everyone

Like I said to make this mod comp generic all of these values will be configurable through an INI file.
