Hello all,
I downloaded the Civ4 demo and would like to play it but since the graphics requirements are quite heavy the game won't run smoothly here. Unfortunately I'm on a laptop (my desktop is even older and certainly won't let the game run) so upgrading my graphics card is not an option... Here are the technical details of my configuration:
The newly installed nvidia drivers don't help much, the game still is VERY laggy (shock-shock-shock, sigh... Not playable) but it decreased about 10%. I tried to download RivaTuner as suggested in the pinned topic here. But that was devastating: tuned some options (little overclock CPU + memory, fiddling with directX options like proposed, disabled vertex shaders, etc) and now Civ4 looks like this:
scr*wed up Civ4 graphics. WOAHH
I tried reverting the options by choosing "reset all to default" and rebooting. Nothing... Trying to scale back the overclocked values is impossible: it complains I need to reboot to check the actual clock values, when I click "reboot" my system reboots and when i reload RivaTuner the message pops up again and keeps on bugging me about rebooting. So I can't adjust the sliders anymore. Resetting all altered (and everything else) directX options doesn't help eighter...
(The game does run a little bit smoother now, but still not very much.)
Any help at all?
I've attached my directX output file. Thanks a lot!
MOD: yeah yeah don't give me the your graphics card is bad reply, because I KNOW and there's nothing I can do to fix it since it's a laptop. I'm not going to pay $600 to update my old Athlon 1.4 desktop to some decent gaming PC.... For now.
