I was playing a game with the 2.8 mod, when all of a sudden the graphics screw themselves up and the new default camera view is viewed in on the microscopic details of the terrain. I can't zoom out any farther, and needless to say it's impossible to play the game like this.
You didn't touch the view field slider in the top right corner did you? Default setting is like, '40' or something. It it slid to 1, it would be as you described.
