I wish that as Wonders aged and eventually if they became obsolete they went through two further stages- an "aged" look where they are not as maintained, a little rundown, perhaps some crumbling, and then, finally, when they retired from use (which they should) they looked like a ruined version of their former selves...

I hate seeing the pyramids GLEAMING by Paris for 4000 years...

And the bonuses you received from them could change as they change appearance. The initial bonus could fade, and more tourism & gold kick in.

There should be a religious belief called Iconoclasm.

With this religion, a civ can bring an apostle to a wonder and raze it for faith for half of the production cost of the wonder. The wonder is permanently removed from the game.

That religion can also destroy great works, antiquity sites, and shipwrecks for faith as well.

Like the idea, but unfortunately in gameplay terms that would be INSANELY broken. If your enemies lacked horsemen to chase down your apostles or inquisitors to kill them before they penetrated the homeland then they'd simply be screwed. You could just roll in with an army of apostles (especially if you got the wonder that lets you choose their upgrade) and cripple their cultural infrastructure. Most of the wonders are already very weak, this would make them even less desirable.

It could be limited to wonders within your own civ.

Iconoclasm would still be very useful for getting rid of wonders, great works, antiquity sites, and shipwrecks for a quick boost in faith for that final push for a religious victory.
