Ok, so i ran DxDiag to check out why exactly my computer wont run civ.

i have made a very interesting discovery. it seems my computer has some strange graphics card issues.

i ran DxDiag when i started the computer from cold. that would be dxdiag1.txt

i loaded civ and the graphics went all pixalated and i couldnt make out anything on the screen. i had flickering rectangles about 5mm long and 2mm high (wierd no), but my graphics card does this sometimes anyway. Normally i reboot and its fine after that. its never bothered me before.

however i ran DxDiag after i rebooted it ("dxdiag.txt") and look at the difference.

when booted from cold i have 64mb (Dxdiag1), however, when i reboot, i only have 32mb (DxDiag). i find this extraordinarily strange.

i have the lastest drivers for my card, which is a mobility radeon 9000. i had to go to the acer website to get it tho, cos for some reason it wouldnt recognise the files from the ati website.

when i try and play the game after ive rebooted it crashes when i try to select a civ. i cant play it from cold because of what happens to the screen (massive pixilations) cant really get a screen shot, cos i dont know whats going on and cant see any of the icons or even make out the desktop background.

can anyone give me some advice or direction pls?

Thanks.

The system requirements say "DirectX 9.0c-compatible 64 MB video card with Hardware T&L support", your mobility 9000 is not a DirectX 9 card, that may be the problem right there.

The display memory showing different numbers with a reboot...that is kind of odd. Could be your mobility 9000 is failing.
