The setup: 3 ghz CPU, 1 gig of memory, GeForce 6800 GT 256 graphics card.

Until a couple of weeks ago, it ran Guild Wars flawlessly and deliciously.

I believe the trigger that caused my current problem occurred when I installed NVIDIA's latest drivers. Now, whenever I zone, the graphic textures for the ground lose a couple of layers, revealing the base checkerboard pattern the engine uses to build the world. Result: the world looks square and blocky like Ultima IV. :)

If I manually turn the detail level down and then right back up, the proper graphic textures come right back, immediately. I only seem to have problems with this one game.

Any ideas?

I know it sounds obvious, but have you tried rolling back to your previous nvidia drivers? Is there any particular reason why you need the latest version?

ROLL BACK????

But these are the LATEST drivers!!! They're new and cool!! I gotta keep 'em!!!

:) :crazyeye:

I'll give it a try eventually, if the problem doesn't go away by itself.....

The latest drivers only really offer updates to the latest graphics cards (ie. 7800 series and the new 6800GS). They may also offer a few SLI optimisations, but you just have the one card, so that doesn't apply.

I have seen many examples of older cards performing better with older drivers. In fact it even states on nvidia's website that you should only update your drivers if you encounter any problems with the current set. Unless your old drivers caused problems with other apps, you should definitely try rolling back.

Try the latest 81.95 drivers, and if they don't fix it just play around with older versions til you find ones that work.

Okay, so when a particular game on my system says there are new drivers I should download--is it checking for new drivers for MY graphics card, or just the latest and greated on the NVIDIA web site?

(Big surprise, rolling back a notch worked fine--except uninstalling the new ones to put the old ones back in deleted some of my settings, including the fix I made to get movies to play correctly....)
