Great Library question

Hi

I am playing on Regent. I built the GL.

I had contact with one AI but completely destroyed them before the GL or contact with any other AI. I now have contact with one more AI. I am behind in techs. My advisor confirms this. I was ok with it as I knew the GL would help me catch up.

So far even though I am 5 or 6 techs behind the only AI I have contact with I have recieved no techs.

My question is do I have to wait until I have contact with another AI before I get the benefits of the GL? Do I only get access to the techs that have been researched by the AI's I have contact with or all AIs?

I'm sure you have to meet the two CIV's.

You need to be in contact with two civs, and they both have to have the tech before you get it.

So what you need is to make contact with two civs who are cross-trading between themselves, and then you're in business.

Go for it, if you need new tech immediately. But even if you don't, you will still get the benefits of the GL eventually, as long as you don't research Education or trade for it. If, by the time you contact other civs, at least two of them have Education, you will get Education and ANY other tech shared by 2 civs that you have contact with. After that, the GL is done with providing you with free tech. But you could in theory get a bunch of techs that come after Education on the same turn that the GL gives you Education.

And, you won't get the free techs immediately, but just when the others have got them. So, there may be just some turns with nothing to happen and then "out of a sudden" you might get a bunch of techs.
Again, providing you with the free techs is triggered by the other ones to get a tech.
