Ok so i fired up a prince game with tiny islands standard map 5 opponents epic.
I beelined optics (popped ah from a hut) because i really had room for one/two more cities on my island and wanted to pop ruins on other islands.
I immediately started building the lighthouse when i could yet i got beaten to it by 15 (!) turns. What did i do wrong? Its prince (noble) computer shouldnt get bonuses how did he build it this fast?
Besides all ai go into classical about 6-7 turns ahead of me despite me beelining optics?? How is that possible?? I attached the save so you guys can try the beeline / instabuild.

I guess the possibility is that the computer popped sailing or something from a hut. Can't really think of anything else. Or maybe Ramses beelined optics and had a really good production capital, not sure if that would win by 15 turns on price though.

The AI loves great lighthouse.
On maps with lots of water, it seems to go very early every single game.

Often, though .. the culprit can be something as simple as a small tile advantage.
Like an AI that starts near a couple of 2/1 food/production tiles (plains/wheat, plains/sheep)

It makes you faster by a lot of turns .. ok, I play marathon, so my timings are different ... but if I worker first I can get one 8 turns faster, which in turn translates into a faster farm, and it snowballs.

The Great Library goes too fast as well, around 2000BC consistantly. Its off by about 2000 years.

Yeah that was what i thought as well yet no way to check it...

Still think you should be able to get an early wonder 99% of the time if you beeline for it on emperor or lower, let alone prince...

Keep in mind the computer gets SPs too, so another beelining AI likely had 33% wonder production and perhaps a high-hammer capital. 15 Turns is a lot though, I suspect they teched from a hut

Other hut benefits can be just as advantageous ... population, for instance.

Perhaps they got +1 pop, or a culture boost ... the +1 food from Tradition can be almost as fast as +1 pop.

Population gets you more beakers, so that could = faster teching, too.

In the demo on Prince as Darius against England, With Huck Finn's tile yeild Files, England had the Great Wall, Colossus, and the Lighthouse by turn 50 with one city. She had no army though, so by turn 60, those were mine. She could only have popped two huts, but they must have been the right ones.

You think that is bad try going for the G lighthouse or the G library on Immortal or Deity. I played one game with Askia, arch map, immortal, huge, the lighthouse was built before 3000BC, and then the library like 5 turns later. I lucked out and actually got Stonehenge, but, I had just started it a few turns prior to Egypt making the lighthouse. AI cheats, always has, it is the only way that they can keep up with a human mind.
