Take a look at this starting position.

You would think that I could get a very good start from this and I did but I play on Pangaea worlds and I am trapped on a small island. When I stopped at 1000 BC I had 24 cities with 2 settlers enroute plus 19 workers and the Great Library set to be built in 975 BC. This is what the world looks like in 1000 BC

Those 6 cows allowed me to make 5 settler factories and a great library city that was started so early that I only got Literature 1 turn before the Palace pre-build was finished. I don't know how you Archipelage world players do it, I haven't meet any other Civs yet and when I do they will all be on a single large continent.

Oh well back to the drawing boards I have plenty of other good starts to play. I just finished playing another practice world that I was going to finish with a diplomatic win but found that Civs that you have been recently at war with wont vote for you even when you are allied with them against the other Civ in the UN vote. When the UN was 1 turn away from finishing I declared war against the Zulu and got every other Civ except the two that had mutual defense agreements with the Zulu to ally with me against them. It was 5 against 3 so when the UN vote was taken I thought it would be 5 to 3 and I would win the game. It wound up 3 to 3 with 2 abstaining and I would have to wait until the next UN vote. That wasn't going to happen since the Zulu were very powerful and in the one turn they had before the UN vote they or their allies managed to reduce my city count from 362 down to 184 and my land area from 50.9% to 27.8%. I would have submitted the game with a diplomatic win in 1415 AD at Deity level on a Huge world had I won. I went back to a previous save and played different so when I declared war I had mutual defense agreements with the Civs that the Zulu also had and just allowed the Zulu to attack to trigger my mutual defense agreements instead of theirs and that worked. My next practice game that I decide to win with a diplomatic victory I will know.

This is indeed a nice start.. deity is not easy.

As a starting milker, I think on archipelago (60% water..) you should only HOPE to have a relatively large starting continent, and be READY to use ships vastly at a relatively early point.

Going Diplomaqtic, of course, is an issue I refuse to talk about :mischief: .
