Great Wall effects should be obsolete for Civs that have discovered Dynamite

In my latest game, I'm invading the Incas as you can see in the screenshot. I've researched Dynamite, but my units are losing points of movement because the Incas have the Great Wall :crazyeye: .

The reason: Great Wall will become obsolete when the Incas research Dynamite.

I think this behaviour should be changed so that Great Wall never obsoletes but has no effects for any Civ that has already discovered Dynamite.

Of course, the current behaviour has been as it's now in all instances of Civ, from Civ I to Civ V. I think the suggested change would be more realistic but also more difficult to program, and perhaps impossible to mod.

It would also further handicap the Civ that's technologically behind.

If a civ has dynamite then it can spam out artillery. A civ with both the great wall and a 3 hex ranged unit would be VERY difficult i.e. unbalanced. (see England Medieval turtle awesome strategy of win as exhibit A).

I would rather methodically march an advanced army across the field facing cannons at best as your concern for ranged attack than face a well entrenched number of cities guarded by artillery.

Therefore I see nothing wrong with it now. Solution - use tanks, even with attack penalty they will destroy a backwards civ, still being able to move 3 hexes on flat terrain.

I've had a similar situation happen to me like two weeks ago, was rolling over everyone with panzers.

It was so easy that I didn't notice the great wall until i was halfway into usa. And went ah.. no wonder why I've been having difficulties.. USA's land is pretty thin and snaky with a combination of mountains and seas plus navy protecting me from simplying going all amphi on him. Even with great wall up, its still very possible to crush them, godforbid the thought that you actually have to exercise your brain.

His riflemen vs mech infantry and rocket artillery ensured that ground be made. It does slows down the pace of invasion, so in a way it could possibly accurate represent how annoying it would've been to invade china in its warring period. Battles, battles, everywhere. !

I just pretend the Great Wall comes with a culture of intense resistance.

I agree with you. I'd say as soon as dynamite is researched by any civ the effects of the GW should end. The same for the French UA plus culture to the invention of ??? - I am sorry was it rails or radio???

Better would be to change GW to a free city wall in every city - + 2 sight to every city, if that is possible - that would help the AI for being run over and these effects do not need to be cancelled!

In that case, shouldn't dynamite also negate the advantage of REGULAR walls?
