Im sure this isnt a biased opinion:Michael Jordan, hands down. Ive never seen a greater competitor. This is soley as a player, not a GM:lol:

Babe Ruth, one of the best pitchers in his era and one of the best hitters of all time. That would be equal to a soccer player being able to play goalie as well as Kahn and then being able to play midfield as well.

yeah, jordan was a do everything kind of player too.

Greatest athlete overall ? I'm fairly sure cycling is far more punishing than any of the other sports mentioned (including boxing), so I guess I'd have to go for Merckx.

Greatest American sportsman ? I would have to go for Ruth - he so clearly outclasses anyone else who has ever played baseball (in a way Jordan doesn't in basketball). Only Don Bradman compares in terms of being so clearly head and shoulders above all the other (of any era) proponents of a sport.

So Merckx, Ruth or Bradman.

PS Why is Walter Payton on the list ? Is CaptainKeyes originally from Chicago ? An excellent running back, but it's very hard to be confident argue that he's the best RB of all time (Brown ? OJ ? Sanders with his 5.0 average ? Emmitt Smith, perhaps ?)

Walter Peyton was the best, RB of all time. Emmitt played longer to beat his rushing record. I'd say Brown and Sanders would be close seconds. O.J.? no thanks I'm not thirsty.

As far as best athlete, I picked Jordan, because he was also a team leader and made everyone around him better. Not to mention the best BB player ever.

That he was, but i think alot of players can have that ability, but Jordan was so competitive, who else in the NBA could of stole the ball from Malone and nail a jump shot to win game six of the NBA Finals his last year, the guy is a competitive genious.

Wilt Chamberlain, the self-professed all-time leader in scoring...
