Going for a diplomatic or space victory and I need some help.

Ya I know I need to look for other civ's to trade for knowledge, but beside that what should I do?

Early in the game once the libraries are available, should I be building them and delaying new city expansion or just keep building cities and only build the libraries once all land is occupied?

Thanks

There are other factors that have to do with the type of game that you enjoy.

There is a succeession game in which they're close to winning a Demi-God Space Victory while having science bar at 0% the whole game, so it all depends on how you like to play.

you can:

a) Conquer for techs
b) Buy techs
c) Research techs
d) Any combination os those

First tell me how you usually get your techs. However, almost any way I'd first expand before anything.

Usually I go for domination or conquest, stopping research early (except the pointy stick type), but know I am trying to improve into other victory conditions.

I gave up building almost everything when I learned how to be a war monger.
Early and rapid knowledge is the key to space and diplo, but what is the best way to do it.

Certainly I would suggest not building libs as soon as you get the tech. grow and wait till you are generating enough beakers to be of use and there is not something better to be making.

One thing I hate to see is a lib going up in a 1 beaker town at size 2, unless you also need the culture to expand borders.

Expand first.

Throw down a lib if you need the culture to hold, or expand, a boarder.

The rule of thumb I was given is to build a lib when your town is able to generate a net of ~10gpt. A lib is a multiplier building. If you're running 100% science with your gold buying 10bpt, a lib will increase that by 50%, giving you 15bpt. A small town generating only 4bpt would only increase to a total of 6 and you'd still have to pay maint on the lib...not a very good bargain...and corruption may even eat up some of what you do get.

In such games, i build libraries troughout the middle ages. Starting with my best cities in early middle ages and the worst get them in late middle ages.

In other words, i will build libraries in cities that produce about 15 beakers, without a library. Certainly 10 bpt is too little imo.

This may change a bit depending on how effective you can conquer. If you have tough opponents, the rewards for building units is reduced and thus, you can build the libraries a little earlier. If you have easy opponents, your units are more rewarding so you should delay the libs a bit more.

Certainly if you play for gotm's, conquest has priority since this is best for your score.
