Gypsy Kings - pitboss session (closed game)

I can get in fine, just use hamachi(easier to ask on msn than to post questions here...).

Turns out there was a fibre cut, so my internet connection has been down hard (and my ISP still has no ETA for fixing it...)

However, I've now managed to get back online, networking through the 3G data card on another computer. So the game is back up, but you'll need to use a new (temporary) IP address to connect. I've now sent this to everyone via PM (sorry hellwitch). Please let me know if there are any further problems.

If you use Hamachi, you can continue to use the same IP of course.

Sorry for the inconvenience everyone. Since the move, I've been using a new ISP, and so far I'm unimpressed. :(

Cheers,
Munro

Edit: looks like the new IP won't work after all, as I'm not able to set up the same port-forwarding rules that I had when using my normal ISP connection. hamachi still works though -
hellwitch / tp - I think you are the only ones not yet using hamachi; can you give this a go?
  • Download and install the hamachi VPN client from https://secure.logmein.com
  • Join existing network GypsyKings - I have sent you the required password via PM
  • In BtS, connect using direct IP as normal, but use the IP address of the 'Pitboss Host' that's listed in hamachi for this network
Let me know if you have any luck with that. Still waiting for my ISP to fix my regular internet connection, and will revert to that as soon as possible.

Well i managed to play via hamachi :) but it is lot more slower. I needed over 2 minutes to connect and load the map. With direct ip it was less than 10 seconds.

That probably wasn't anything to do with hamachi. The temporary setup was using a 3G wireless data card to get out to the internet, which is about 50 times slower than my normal internet connection. So it probably would have been just as slow using direct IP.

The good news is that my normal internet connection is finally back up... So it should now
  • be possible to connect again via 'direct IP' rather than Hamachi if you prefer (the public IP you were using before this weekend)
  • be a lot faster, regardless of which way you connect.

Though it would be good to keep Hamachi installed for now (or just keep using it going forwards) as it does make things problems slightly easier to deal with if there are any other problems with the connection in future (since I now know how to work around them with the wireless card).

hellwitch - I'd be interested to know if your hamachi connection is faster now that my normal uplink is back in service?

How are we going to address misclicks/keyboard shortcut errors. I was chatting with oyzar while in game and i think my unit went to "explore" when i was typing.

EDIT: Munro reloaded to address this problem. Just want to warn everyone that when chatting in game, we need to be very careful about having any units selected as they will move with certain keyboard actions, in particular, I think the "e" key sends them exploring!!!

Not so far...

Weird i can still connect, maybe the ip just changed? Try hamachi it works fine... Just TP to go btw. Seems like the civstats uploader crashed too obviously... @ TP, When you play, can you post here since civstats is not working? @ Munro if you reboot the server reguarly you should be able to avoid crashed due to unstable software(both the pitboss program and civstats) once every week or so...

I can get in with hamachi also!...

Ok - maybe just an issue with the uploader then (or a genuine but temporary connectivity issue and the uploader just didn't reconnect automatically)?

tp - can you confirm you can access the game? Were you actually unable to access the game earlier or were you just looking at civstats?

Just looking at civstats. I'm sure Oyzar and Ronnie are right. Just didn't follow their advice right away because I had opened my GOTM35 save and a very short playtime would look suspicious. But I will try in the next few hours.

There is no reason to trust civstats, it can easily go down without the game going down.

New Turn for Gypsy Kings Pitboss 23 July 2008 !

There was no problem at all, hamachi or no hamachi

There was a point, yesterday I think, that civstats was down for all five of my games, suggesting a civstats server issue rather than a game issue ...

why did hellwitch log in without finishing his turn? the timer won't run out anytime soon...
