Yes, hamachi isn't required. You can use either of the following DNS entries to connect:
munro-pitboss.no-ip.org (not using Hamachi)
munrociv.no-ip.org (Hamachi)
Although - if someone is connected via Hamachi and you try to connect directly (or visa versa) you'll be unable to connect to the existing peer. But it doesn't sound like it's been a big problem so far..

I have come across that in a different game (hamachi required) a couple of times, just started seeing that in the last month. Usually in the morning for me, which would be afternoon or evening for you I assume?

Are we planning to pause the game over christmas?
Munro has mentioned to me he will be away for 2 or 3 weeks over this period, and I'll also be away for a week from the 24th to the 30th. Are there other teams in a similar situation, or who would also like the game to be postponed during this time?
I was also thinking that it would be interesting if we could all post a sort of write up about what they've been thinking during the game. Probably not while the game is still going, more likely at the end.
This is my first go at Civ multiplayer and I've already learnt quite a lot, but I would find it really interesting to hear other players' thoughts on the strategies they have taken.

With 2 teams already completely way for the hollyday we will stop the game for sure.
We must agree on when the game will stop and at which date it can be continued.
For me personally i will have more spare time.

It's *possibe* that I could play while I'm away from home, but it wouldn't be consistent.
Can someone who isn't Munro change settings with the server? Since Munro will be away until the 4th, if we were to pause the game how would we restart it without him?
Another option is to set the turn timer to something really long, like 2 weeks. Does the server allow a turn timer of 336 hours?

I've changed the turn timer to 999 hours (6 weeks 
). It'll take effect from the next turn.
This means we can keep playing as quickly as we are able, but if / when a team is completely away, no-one will miss their turn.
I'll restart the server as well before I leave so hopefully it'll last a while without supervision.
Also - I am still looking for subs in a couple of my other pitboss games so if anyone is interested in playing for me for a few weeks, send me a PM and let me know.

I am not yet sure about my availability over the holiday season, but pausing or long timers are perfectly fine with me.

Great plan on the timer...(@munro) I'd sub when I'm available, if I'm not already playing of course.
As oyzar alluded to, I'll be away from the 25th to the 1st, a reasonable 1 week time period imo. But the 20th to the 8th sounds like way more fun.

Well, with cell phone wireless internet, it goes where I go ... but still, I like the long timer idea ... as it allows us to play as much as schedules allow without any hassles.
And over the holidays, there are times then there is not time ... even if the net is with you ...

Well, the turn timer is 999 hours from the next turn. If Munro is still at his computer, I would appreciate a re-load.

Yes, I'm here another 36 hours yet...
No-one's played yet this turn so I can reload to the last autosave tonight (around 1am GMT), however
- the last autosave is from dV's last login; he'll have to replay his turn
- dV played with only about 35 mins left on the clock.. so there won't be much time after the reload; so I'll leave the game 'paused' after the reload
- when each of you (dV and tp) play, you'll have to unpause the game (press the 'pause' button on your keyboard) and whichever of you plays first, leave the game paused after you are done (and make sure you leave enough time for the other player)
Note: if you have a diplo screen waiting for you when you login, you won't be able to unpause the game.. if that happens you'll need to co-ordinate with another player to login at the same time as you and unpause it so you can play. Hopefully that won't happen...
Shout if there are any problems with the above.
