Halo 3 Strategy and Tips

1. Shoot people in vehicles off of the cliff on Rat's Nest whenever possible. It's funny and a good way to kill someone.

2. Use intimidation. If you're about to die but you take cover, make people dealise it is a bad idea to attack you. Maybe swing a grav hammer or poke your sniper rifle around a corner. Fear can be a major detterent in some games, especially against more inexperianced players.

3.Use unorthodox tactics. Nothing says "you're screwed" like having someone from the other team getting into your warthog and hitting you. That and bouncing nades off of walls and ceilings to attack the enemy from many different angles.

Tip: If you are a bad shot then PLEASE dont pick up the sniper rifle. You will most likely get pwned and if there is a good sniper on your team then they wont be able to get the sniper.

How are you supposed to get better though?

play social... or campaign.
Mongees are almost useless unless you are playing CTF or trying to get the mongoose mowdown

They're also useful for going a long distance on Sandtrap if you want to get to something far away quickly. :p

On a side note of that: Warthogs: without a gunner, not very helpful.

I've only found mongees useful for moving somewhere quickly, hoping no enemies are nearby.

However, I've seen many people, as well as my self use mongees to ram into people at random moments. This is suprisingly useful if used correctly. If you do it once every few games you might get a couple splatters.

This works really good on snipers if you can get behind them or to their side without them seeing you.

The thing about ramming people with mongeese is that they are so small that you could glance off a rock and miss by an inch, taking down all the opponents shields and alerting them, then spinning you and off flipping you over some rock while your opponent recovers and kills you. Warthogs w/o gunners are better for splatering and not as useless seeing as you can pick people up or get out and gun people down from a hill.

Yeah, but it's hard to hit someone who knows you're there, they can easily strafe out of the way.

As to the gunner, true, but a Warthog that isn't moving is a lot easier to hit with rocket launchers, spartan lasers, banshee bombs, etc.

If they know you were there then a mongoose would be even less effective.

Well you wouldn't want to do it often but just FYI warthog guns destroy Banshees like nothing else.

Also on avalanche heavy, on team slayer: Grab all the vehicles and blow up the other team's vehicles while they're all elsewhere. Getting 50 kills before they can get 5 should now be very easy. Just recently was in a game where this was very well done by my team, which at the time was losing by 40 kills, but managed to come back and tie at at 97-97 when the clock ran out. Truly epic comeback, with much blowing up by scorpion tanks.

Epic Thread Bump: I guess Halo Reach Tips are also topical in this thread, so:

-If you Armor Lock just as an enemy vehicle is about to hit you, the vehicle will explode.
-You can skyjack Banshees that aren't paying attention with good Jetpack use.
-In Invasion Slayer, it's sometimes easier to just let an enemy capture the point, and then kill them and take their stuff.
-The Rocket Launcher weakly locks on to ground vehicles, and more strongly locks on to flying vehicles.
-On Hemhorrage, Wraiths and Scorpions can totally destroy everything else due to the lack of cover.
