Hangs in loading splash screen...

Alright, here's the deal. I can install the game fine-- install shield ate it when trying to autodownload the patch for Vanilla and Warlords but I just did it manually-- but once I run it, it's a no go. The loading screen comes up for about a minute before closing and the error report box takes its place. It never makes it to initializing the gfx and python. Never any such problems with Vanilla or Warlords ever.

I've tried everything... uninstalled, cleared the registry, reinstalled, mounted the disc as an image, uninstalled and reinstalled in safe mode (why not?), and nothing works. I tried it on my friends computer and it worked the first time, no problem, so it's not the discs and has to be something about this computer.

Reeaaaally want to just play now, seriously. Plus, I managed to get my girlfriend hooked on this along with me-- I can't drop the ball now! For Godssake man!

I would suggest an uninstall & reinstall again, but clean-out the game directory after you've uninstalled, and also try cleaning-out the installshield directory too. I would also advocate updating all drivers.

Hey,

I seem to have a similar problem, the load screen pops up in 7 languages, and it eventually closes to be replaced by an error message, very generic, 'civ4 encountered a problem and had to close' Occasionally it starts and works fine but i cant figure out why. I uninstalled daemon tools bc i thought it might be a conflict with safedisc4, installed 3.02, and got latest drivers for ati x800 mobile.
Civ 4 always worked fine and still does on this comp.

If I follow your advice, by clean out game directory do you mean just delete every file left over from the uninstall? Also, how do I clean out the installshield directory, Ive never tried that?

I have the same problem. I get a loading screen, but it just hangs there for a few minutes the just like Comradematt I get an error screen. The difference with mine is that it can never get past the loading screen. I have searched all over this site & still cannot play the game. If anybody can help it would be greatly appreciated.

I seem to be experiencing the same problem. I have a new computer that is more than capable of running this game. My drivers are all up to date. The only question I ask is wether Windows Vista is part of the problem?

I'm having something similar to this. I get past the intro movies and it hangs at a blue background screen. I've tried un-installing and re-installing with no luck.

i have the whole 3 expantion that worked fine before but when i bought my new laptop none worked what so ever

i pass the first part where i choose my game setup then peuuuffff the whole thing crashes

have you installed bts already? if so the install did not patch Civ4 properly.
