Although we are not the 14 july just yet and *cough* we didn't won the world cup *cough*, the festivities started tonight with fireworks at my place. Happy Bastille Day, 14 juillet to all Frenchie CFC'er (i know we're only a few :D ) :band: [party]

Also noteworthy, that the Bastille Day is only mentioned in English, as its not the case in French, just the "14 juillet".

What does Bastille Day celebrate?

Oh, and be prepared to be flamed by the American Warmongers.

French Revolution?

(I guess I'm not an "American Warmonger". I still like France. :))

A sad day in French history. The people were allowed to eat cake and they still rebelled against their rulers!

Oh, yes, th 14th is the day Frenchies go to my hometown to enjoy the last bits of our awesome festivals.

The guy who started everything, Sade was his surname, wrote some funny books. Parental advisory is needed to read those books.

Happy blue blood killing aniversary, anyway, enjoy our festivals for those who happen to go to Pamplona.

Joyeux Fête à notre autre pays de mère! :) [party]

Vive la France, Vive Zizou!

This right after Dreyfus Day, you frogeaters* seem to have a fun mid-July. And what better event to celebrate than an event that led to anarchy, massive executions, and finally a dictator?

*No offense intended. Duh.

Ah yes, Bastille day! Happy 14th, my French bretheren!

Do you guys shoot off fireworks in France to celebrate, as we do? Or do you just all get smashed? Hey, that gives me an excuse to get drunk tomorrow, yay!

TO Dawgphood, and any other folk who don't understand what this is about.

The 14 July, 1789, in response to 1)the skyrocketting bread prices, 2) Louis XVI dismissal of Jaques Necker, the only man competent enough to deal with the nation's fiscal crisis, and 3) the movement of troops from Versiallies, Champ de Mars, and St. Denis into Paris. Now, the Parisians are traditonally a very rowdy group, and their city's history is marked by armed uprising by its citizens (hence why Hausmann rebuilt Paris the way he did, but that's neither here nor there), and today, July 14th, they forced their way into the Bastille, a large and looming fortress/dungeon where the king kept political prisoners, and took the arms in store there. It was the beginning of the French Revolution.

EDIT: and I'm an American, just so you know. I wrote this off the top of my head.

Fireworks and the very famous "Bal des pompiers", where fire brigades all over France organize parties. And of course a military parade, with cool stuff like, errrr tanks and planes :D

No specific food, no specific dress code.

:D you know, to this date, i have never tasted a frog leg. But i do eat snails every now and then. Its actully delicious. Did you ever tryed that? I'm sure you'd like it :goodjob:

As for your comments, while you'r right, it eventually led to the human's right for one and the republic in wich we are living today! But to be honest, i doubt most of my fellow frenchies care about the heritage from this 14 july 1789. They'll rather see it as a day off work, and a reason to get drunk. :p

Although, i do find myself watching the military parade on TV most of the time.

:vomit: Where I once lived in Cincinnati, at night, there would be 8-12 slugs on my porch in the summer. They made me fear going out at night... I couldn't stand them. Once, I steped on one barefoot in the grass and I cried.

Just a normal day for me or almost. I sometimes go to see a fireworks, but fireworks aren't that special, eh ? Also that military parade on TV : all I know is that I'll be trying to sleep in the morning, but those planes and choppers will probably wake me up because I'm almost right under their line of flight (the Champs-Elysées axis).
