I have played vanilla civ, ptw, and now conquest. but with conquest i notice something different. At the start of some games, your capital might have a goodie hut in the radius already or close enough so after your borders expand you get it. So after settleing I always get gold, warrior, map, settler, or tech, but never barbarians ( yes they are on and set to raging ). But from then on any time I settle next to another hut most of the time i get barbs. So after some pondering I figured it out. The difference between my capital and my other cities is no fighting units are in the city radius at the time of settlement so the game gives me a pieceful gift from the hut. So after some testing, sure enough everytime i place a city near a hut without any fighting units in the city radius I either get a tech, settler, gold, unit, or map but mostly I get techs.
It can be dangerest sending your settlers out there by themselves with barbs on raging, I just have to remember to send a warrior with it and move the warrior out of the city radius before I hit the 'B' button.
Well i was at my parents house the other day and started a game of ptw ( civ3 goldedition ) and this stradigy did not work. I never got barbs but I never got techs either, just gold or warrior. So obviously this is something new in conquest ( huts giving away techs so frequently to non-expansionist civs ).
btw: I play diety, Mayans, ai most aggressive, huge map and two seperate continents and all random civs.
Any one else notice this or am I already a little behind the times?
