Has anyone made it to 1000+ turns?

Got hit with the sound bug last night, which mutes unit animation sounds. The cure for this is 'reveal map', but revealing the map is kind of a gamebreaker too. This was only around turn 400.

My last game had a perma-crash around turn 750.

How much punishment should I allow myself? Is every game going to fail eventually? Its even worse when you are trying a specific civ on a TSL map. Gets very repetitive.

Has anyone managed to play a game to 1000 turns? 2000? This is feeling like a painful waste of time at the moment, and I'm considering just shelving the game for good.

I am very curious to know how many games the devs played. I mean really played, not debugged or having autoplay on.

I've played over 1000 turns in a marathon game.

832 turns in TSL map is my record (marathon ofcourse). I could make it longer but it do took 2 minutes playing while 3 minutes waiting for next turn after 700+ turn, and I really do not want to experience it any more.

Do you find games die from bugs or crashing? What do you think the % is for having an issue-free game?
It's as stable as a barn for horses. The only crash type issue I get is the freeze-up on exit. The late-game turns get a little slow, but it's still tolerable.

So I've just been unlucky. And no problems with the Australian update muting sound when you cross over the map boundry?

I didn't even know that problem existed.

Apparently, if you hit a certain spot on the map, unit animations get muted. The only solution is to go into debug and reveal map. Others have experienced this as well after the Outback patch.

There is a small thread on it in bugs forum.

I wonder if you don't have enough memory to handle the games with really long loading times, I've never had an issue with that but I get the freeze on exit all the time. I found that if you continue playing for a minute after saving then when you exit it won't freeze. Up until yesterday! I did this yesterday and it did freeze.
I've also noticed that since the last patch I need to restart my laptop when it freezes, before the patch I could Alt Tab out of it.

I have also found it's less likely to happen if I exit to the main menu before quitting instead of quitting directly to the desktop.

I once thought it freezes when you try and exit the game while its still saving, but the save files aren't huge in size unless the game has to do lots of processing to create it.

turn 900 something on marathon, emperor, ynaemp with all civs ,and no problems at all...

Well, this gives me hope.

I started a GEM TSL Germany game last night. The plan is to build a galley asap and do some testing with the sound bug. The bug occurs when a unit has the side edge of the map in visibility range (for me, it was on the southwest side of Iceland). When this happens, the camera view 'jerks' or 'snaps' quickly. This is, apparently, the sign that the bug has taken effect. For me (at least), the sound didn't actually mute until my next reload. So... I want to test:

1) if the camera jerk will occur 100% of the time I have visibility of the edge of the map, and
2) if the jerk occurs, does it 100% mean a mute will follow.

I predict a lot of reloading in my near future.

I point out that I've circumnavigated the glove many times on GEM prior to the Australian patch. I've settled on Iceland. No problems.

I've also noticed that since the last patch I need to restart my laptop when it freezes, before the patch I could Alt Tab out of it.

I've been able to CTRL ALT DELETE, and then log out (Windows 10), and then log back in, which is much quicker than rebooting. Yesterday I tried exiting to main menu first, and then exiting, and that worked.

I play games to play games, instead of not playing games. When > 50% of time spent playing a game is actually not playing it ceases to be hyperbole, I find a game to play that I can actually play.

That game isn't civ 6, so no 1000 turn games for me.

Ctrl Alt Del doesn't work for me but very occasionally I can press the windows key and shut down properly rather than pulling the plug. Exit to main menu worked for me too yesterday

I used to go to main menu first too, but found only ludicrous caused any freezing.

If you can still use Ctrl+Alt+Del (that is, only the screen froze, not the PC), I've got a workaround in Windows 10 that I've posted in some threads around:

As a workaround, you can follow these steps if you use Windows 10:
  1. Press Ctrl + Alt + Del and bring up the Task Manager
  2. Use Alt+Tab to see if it was brought up
  3. If yes, then close it and use Windows + Tab toopen another desktop
  4. Open the Task Manager in the new desktop
  5. End Civ VI process
  6. Close the new desktop
