No, they just do it because they don't want to mess up all of the current dates, I think. Otherwise, why change it from BC, and AD?

It is probably an attempt to give the world a unified calendar, without causing offense to followers of non-christian religions.

My favorite is the Ottoman city of "NotConstantinople". I'm unsure about this but I remember a song by this early 90's indie band called They Might Be Giants and one of their songs, called "Not Constantinople", featured a chorus with the lyrics:
"Istanbul was Constantinople
Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Why did Constantinople get the works?
That's nobody's business but the Turks"

I do believe that we're going a bit off topic here. I understand that the city names are different; you can keep naming which ones, but try to expand your horizons past that. Thanks.
