Has MP been fixed

As long as you play against people with cable and stationed around you (like I try to play with people on the East coast, not across the ocean or on the west coast) its fine. If someone has unreliable 56k or really bad cable, lag can be a little horrendous but if they are dropped, it should fix itself.

To play MP which expansion pack do I need? Play the World or Conquests?

Thanks!

You can play both in the MP. I have noticed quite bad lag (up to almost a full minute per turn) with PTW, and me and my friends all have cable, and live fairly close together. Conquests has more shorter lags, as in maybe up to 2 per turn, and they last for maybe 2-3 seconds, it is annoying, but liveable.

Note that I have only tried the "Internet" option for MP, I haven't tried any other options.

Local runs quite smoothly for me, with 2 computers. One being a Dell XP and one a Win 98, I am quite content even though the Win 98 seems to lag quite a bit more because its farther away from the internet (wireless) and its older and used to have a virus.

I only bought C3C and I would like to know how the multiplayer games works.

Do you have to wait for the other player to finish his turn, and how it works in the modern ages when there are dozens of cities to manage? Is it possible to talk with your opponent during the game?

Thanks in advance.

With Si-move you have to wait for the other players to finish so they have to press space bar or enter (one of them) to end their turn if the turn timer is off. If the turn timer is on (normal, slow or fast) they have and you have a certain amount of time to complete the turn. So if you finish early you have to wait for the timer or the other person to finish his turn.

In turnless, their is NO AI as it cannot be programmed or something like that. It's only human vs human and goes quite quick.

Turn-based is based on turns like regular civ :p

Original Question was about lag and multiplayer quality. It is true that PTW was bad for MP. If you buy Conquests, you also get the newest PTW included. Conquests multiplayer is quite good. Lag is reasonable - except for large internet games. You will have a minute lag between turns if there are 4-6 players. More computer players seem to elevate this problem. But I play on LAN and have only a rare occurance where one player will have "windows has encountered and error and cannot continue".

Wardog wanted to know about MP. If you play with friends and computers, simultaneous turns is the best option. The timer is quick during the beginning when you have few units. As unit numbers increase, you are allotted more time per turn. For example if we have 4 players, the turn may last 5 minutes. 3 of the players will finish their turn and hit spacebar within 2 minutes. They can still move units and change production until the turn time limit or until the fourth player finishes his turn and hits spacebar. This is quick unless you have a new player, or if one person is waging a huge war, while others are status quo.

Once more for clarification, when the turn starts, all four players are moving units at the same time. This can add a huge twist on the game as a player can move units into a city to defend the same time you are attacking it. Or as you attack city A, they could be attacking your city B. It makes bombard units a little harder to use I have found. (picture your target moving, or you may lose visibility of the target as they could destroy your scouting unit.) But I find this 'human' twist giving me a 1000x more satisfying game experience.

No offense to anyone I hope, but using the same civ to kill the same stupid computer on the same settings just different map is a tedious act. I challenge you all to match wits against a skilled Civ opponent. You will be very glad you did. (Perferrably a quick opponent too!)
