Has the AI attacked you with nukes first?

Has the AI ever attacked you with nukes before you attacked them with nukes? I know the question has been asked before, but I don't recall it ever being asked with a poll. If you remember what difficulty it occured on, please state the difficulty.

No, because I can't recall ever having a nuclear war. I may have had one or two nuclear wars a year or two ago when I played vanilla, but I think back then I started it, not the AI.

I was the victim of an unprovoked tactical nuke attack in a PTW game.

When I say unprovoked, we were already at war, but it was an AI first strike.

The Russkies were on the ropes, so it was a desperation measure I guess.

Its happened to me a couple of times, and as Bartleby said when the AI had nothing else to lose.

Yes, once. It was in El Justo's TCW scenario. I was America, and I was at peace with Russia. I airdropped a US Ranger (an invisible unit) into Russian territory, for the hell of it. I moved him around for a few turns, and he eventually ended on a Railroaded tile. That turn, the ol Sub bug hit me, as a Russian unit stumbled across my ranger, causing the Russians to declare war. I was surprised, though, when Miami got hit with a nuke that was stationed in Cuba! Apparently the sub bug opens up the nuclear envelope.

It was 1.07, long time ago. Iroques strike with ICBM my small remote City in the tundra. We war "at phony war", I prepared troops to major landing, had no ICBM myself but had some on submarines. Why they did not strike capital don't know.

Yes, I was attacked once. Playing on warlord or regent. As I became stronger and took more land India went from a trading partner and friend to furious and an unprovoked attack in less than 30? turns. Too bad for Gandhi.
Even though I never build the MP, I do build nukes.

^Warlord or Regent, wow. I had been under the impression it was only on Emperor+ or so that the AI would use nukes. Evidently not.

Glad to see the AI will at least use nukes when necessary. Might not be so glad if it happens to me later on, but oh well! I haven't had it occur to me yeat.

It might happen with the Chinese, they are the only AI remaining so the others cant go to war with them. They are definitely going to end up in a desperate situation possibly with the technology to build nukes. They still own enough territory to have the relevant resources. They are certainly Furious with you, and I dont think you have SDI. Removing their access to resources would put a stop to it and building SDI reduces their likelihood of using nukes, but they will if you do.

That must have been Civ 2 when I was last attacked by the AIs with nukes. In civ 3 never - mainly because my games don't last that long.

I was going for a 20k on an emperor game and out of the corner of my eye I saw my capital ooze orange. I was at war with India who were closing in on a space victory. I lost half my pop, my temple and cath. I had enough workers stockpiled to clean up that mess and pump my pop back up. It still cost me a couple of turns. But of course the civ to use nukes first was India.

(laughs). Since, I'm new, I've just gotten to warlord. I have a lot of wars, so I usually win before anyone gets nukes.

But seriously, I don't even like nuclear war. I don't even like using the Cruise Missile. I prefer old fashioned Air Strike bombardment. More efficient. But the Cruise Missile is pretty fun.

In a recent game I was Russia, the only other civ left was Korea, and they were a half era ahead of me. The 3 cities that were nuked were the opening salvo in a massive invasion which cost me about 20 cities which I took back the next 2 turns. Sometime when I feel really bloodthirsty, I may go back to that one and finish it. Tanks against their MI's and MA's might be scary.

I was playing a game on the Chieftain level a few weeks ago and when I nuked France (who I was at war with), Germany (who I was at peace with) declared war on me. Then, Germany nuked two of my cities.

in my games i dont think the AI has had a chance to get to build nukes

No. I've played games trying to provoke them but I never got hit with a nuke unless I struck first.
