Foghorn Leghorn. My altime favorite Saturday cartoon character (I don't know why, probably because I have some screws loose!) I once looked for YEARS for a Foghorn wristwatch to no avail (friends, knowing my fetish over this, gave me a mickey mouse wristwatch as a gift, but I merely spat upon it).

I did, however, find a Foghorn Leghorn alarm clock. It's in the shape of an egg & when the alarm goes off he pops up out of the top and says "Ah say! Ahhh SAAAYYY!" in a very loud voice. Go figure that you can find something like that but not a wristwatch.

Needless to say, once I got married, my wife sent Foghorn into forced exile from the bedroom

as far as my original statement no offene was meant. i've spent many, many hours beating my head against the wall trying to figure out how to get stuff to install and make things work right. i usually find the answer on boards just like this.

I'm talking obvious bugs. Such as the example posted.

I do have to say, I've defended Firaxis quite a bit on this forum, but ... we are now over 130 days now since the last patch. Over a third of a year. At some point even the patient will have to start wondering ...

I know a few mechanics (my Papa knew plenty, being a technically oriented person himself) who would tell you something quite similar about a car... Yet plenty of intelligent, capable, successful people can't change a flat tire. Does this mean they should stop using cars? In academia, I know plenty of people who don't know to use a computer for anything but word processing - many of these people are internationally published and acclaimed scholars and writers of other sorts. I can tell you, many of them wouldn't have a hope in hell of doing what Bhruic's patch required, or solving the "out of sync" error that came with 3.13. Should they be using typewriters - just too stupid to use a computer up to your standards?

A computer is a tool, and there are people specialized in taking care of such tools. In the society we live in, with the division of labour being a fundamental part of its organization, it's pure hubris and snobbery to say "Well if you can't perform said task, maybe you shouldn't use the object associated with it at all!" No one is telling you to stop using vanilla because you can't grow the beans, stop drinking milk because you can neither raise nor milk a cow, nor to stop driving a car because you can't change a fan belt (suppositions on my part - you can tailor such examples to just about anyone). Get over yourself and recognize that a computer is a tool, and there are people specialized to take care of them, and people who devote their time and intelligence to other areas.

Sorry to be a hard ass. Well, not really... As a person who builds his own computers (not a great feat, but I'm not illiterate) I've never particularly enjoyed the pompous attitude concerning computer literacy that a huge portion of the PC gaming community holds.

I found this post to be the most enjoyable thing I have read all day and I am not even sure why.

Folks should stop being afraid to use the Bhruic patch... it solves pretty much anything that needs to be solved.

There's also plenty of excellent mods out there that Firaxis couldn't touch in quality for shizzy.

Frankly, if Firaxis never did another thing for Civ4 ever again (and I think the odds of that are actually fairly high), it wouldn't bother me the least... Firaxis has done enough for this game... the modding community has picked up and ran with it.

You speak as if everyone belongs to "the modding community" or is visits these forums. Well, you are wrong.

Anyway, some time ago one of the people at Firaxis told us unofficially that a new patch would be published at some tim or other. I hope so, because otherwise Ill never by a Firaxis game again.

Don't want to be a hard ass here but in todays computer enviroment if someone can't figure out how to install a game patch (official or unofficial) they should probably box that computer back up and sell it.

If you call this mod a patch then its easy to say that Civ3 has no corruption, no pollution, fixed army.. 1000 cultural unique units and every era looking like this or this

Nah don't matter what technicality you try to differentiate it with, its completely the same as playin civ3 conquests without all the things people complain about on here "patched" unofficially.

In simple terms its amatuer content and you don't got access to this member's interpretation if you arn't tuned into downloading mods from a fan site forum.

It does seem like they should realize this is counterproductive to do it this slowly. If you are going to do it, then just DO it. Otherwise you have folks who don't feel they have to have the "latest" taking their time about buying their game, reasoning it will be a better playing experience that way anyway.

That's actually how I got my copy of Civ4. I read on these forums that it had lots of problems, so I just waited a few months to buy it. Then when I was ready to buy it, I got a used copy (of the limited edition pre-purchse release "bible", with the music CD etc to boot) on ebay for pretty cheap (probably because the original owner gave up on trying to play the version as it was shipped). Maybe I also could have bought it at discount new by then if i hadn't bought it on ebay. But my point is, had I thought it was worth buying right away, i would have bought new for close to full retail no doubt, and Firaxis would have made money off me. But it ended up I just bought someone else's copy after they tired of it, and Firaxis made no money from that transaction.

Just doesn't make good business sense to let things drag out.

if a new patch gets released by firaxis, will that then get put on the newest copies of BTS in the shops, if so how long does it normally take after final patch b4 id be able just to go and buy a bug free game without all this downloading one dodgy patch after another?
Got the first two civ4 and warlords but after reading some of these pages ive been completly scarred off from getting it! especially as im not v.good at fixing these probs myself,(last time i just checked for updates on warlords, downloaded official patches and niether game worked at all! had to reinstall!)
if any one can answer my question or put my mind at ease
about buying BTS i would be very grateful... CHEERS!!

I don't think they change it at all.

But you should buy it! You just download then install Bhuric's patch and the official (in no order) and it's GREAT!!!!

Yeah, it won't be added in to the discs until a new packaging comes out. I doubt even Civ 4 Complete will have the new batch as it is already out in Europe I believe and there is still no patch. More than like Civ 4 Complete will be released worldwide before this patch gets made and then that may not be updated to include all patches for at least a couple months. Even then it depends on where you shop and even other stuff.

If you are waiting to buy BTS, I would just say 'wait' until you see a price you like. I have seen some cheap copies out there now. But at this point all you have to do is install the new patch through the game then come here and grab Bhruic's patch. Then when the new and final patc comes out all you have to do is download it and cross your fingers they don't screw up the last patch and break something before putting down Civ 4 and ignoring its existance for eternity so they can work on 5.

I think it is now almost exactly 5 months since the 3.13 patch, right? We got 3 patches in less than 3 months, and then nothing at all for 5 months. They couldn't possibly be working on a patch this long, so this must be it.

It seems a terrible shame, there are some things at least they could have fixed very easy. For SP mode you always have bhruic's patch, but for multiplayer, it's a shame ...

Yep. The stupid thing is they probably paid a small fortune to be a gamespy affilliated game, and then promptly ruined it through their own inept patching! I'm not too worried about anticipating the patch though, we all know how good they are at patches Bhruic BTS as it is now works fine, I'm more worried that if a new patch comes out it'll screw a whole host of new things up as usual and then Bhruic etc will have to start again from scratch. It might be weeks to get it back to a playable state
