Just throwing a link here for you to try this new MMOG: CLICK.
Important notes:
- it's still an alpha but, much like Dwarf Fortess, is a highly enjoyable alpha
- free
- no downloads
- developed by two swedish students with a lot of good ideas
About the game, it's hard to describe. It's totally different from the totally boring recent MMORPGs. Think about Ultima Online, but with 10x of things to do.
There's no storyline, no NPCs. It's entirely player-driven. As overused as the term may be, it's a true sandbox game, like Ultima Online.
You can do pretty much whatever you want. You can estabilish your own estate, wich can be based upon metal industry, multiple kinds of plantations, winemaking, cheesemaking, etc. You can specialize on something and trade for the rest (character can focus on "industry" or "nature" via some slider settings), or be a jack of all trades.
Or you can simply claim a little camp and hunt for valuable meat.
You can be an . .. .. .. .. .. .. . and go steal/vandalize/murder in other people's plots.
And obviously you can create villages with other people to share resources and organize your jobs.
Right now there are a couple estabilished villages.
A total map/item reset is planned very soon (probably next week-end) so you may register to take a look and then wait for the reset to start seriously.
Right now the map is kinda bland: a vast grassland with patches of forest and swamps here and there, but in the reset they are going to add a crapload of land features and creatures.
They are probably going to rework the skill system as well at some point. Right now you earn learning points doing anything, wich can be spent to unlock totally unrelated skills.
It's an alpha, so pretty much everything can change at any point. Beside this major reset, they often update to fix/add new stuff. In the last update they implemented new production lines for cheesemaking and beermaking.

The server crashes sometimes, but is't getting better lately. Last crash was a week ago, I think.
The forums are not an accurate image of the playerbase. There's a small group of . .. .. .. .. .. .. .s going all srs bsns on an alpha, who tend to generate a lot of e-drama.
But it's a choice of the devs. They rather work on the game itself, so the forum is unmoderated. Still good to find how to do stuff.
I'm in no way related to the two devs, but they are not advertising the game.
So I'm just trying to attract new players.
