Having trouble in Multiplayer,please help!

My boyfriend and I are trying to play a multiplayer game over the net. But when either or us tries to host and the other puts in the IP address it says that the connection failed, and the host just sees the "wating for players" thigny. We have gotten our IPs from one of those IP finding sites and have both tried hosting a couple times. so...anyone got any ideas?

Firewalls are often the major reason for inability to successfully host a game. For example the standard Microsoft windows XP firewall will prevent successful hosting of a game unless it is switched off
