hi, i was wondering if anyone could help me with my computer problems. a virus,adware, or something else has begun to mess up my computer. it won't let me run Norton anti-virus so i can't find the problem. There are also subsequent problems. i was thinking of formatting my hard drive and just starting fresh. Yet, i'm not sure on how to accomplish this totally. I undersand the boot disk,the setup, but if anyone could explain it further, i'd be grateful.

What version of Windows do you have? If you have XP it would be easiest to do a system restore.

I have Windows 98

It sounds to me like you have a worm. Blocking your anti-virus software is a common feature of a worm. Try this on-line scan from Trend Micro:

with windows 98 to do system restore (register) you go to DOS command line (by pressing F8 when computer is booting to windows) and put the command scanreg /restore (or recover, i dont remember witch)

You choose a date when you think your system was working good.

for intalling again, its better to format it manually, "format c:\" then you run setup and you done.
