Hearts of Iron 2 Questions

I've got some more questions for ya :p

Why does Nationalist Spain keep losing in my games? They haven't quite lost yet but they're being backed into a corner in ym current game. I'm hoping for allies.

What do you normally put for attachements to your infantry devisions? I just started by putting for every 12 devisions under a field marshal:

1 x anti-air
1 x anti-tank
1 x armored car/personal carrier
1 x engineer
1 x artillery

Last game they were all over the place. I'm going to try to keep all my units uniform tyhis time so I know what I get when I send a stack out.

Do you ever use the mountaineers, marines or airborne guys?

I was thinking the mountaineers would be good (obviously) for places like the alps and in the mountains along the Spanish border ... Except you usually roll through those areas pretty quickly so is it worth it?

Airborne. That's always fun and i'm going to be playing with it this time around.

Marines seem like an ideal choice for rivers and whatnot obviously. Do you use them though? Is it just better to bring more devisions of the regular guys and spend the rest of the money on more air power or whatnot?

Edit: Yay! It only took me 5 years to get 500 posts. lol

First of all, it is not so wise to only have 12 division armies. You need several smaller groups to cover a large front and to suppress the occasional partisan activity.

Second, to the brigades; I hardly use anti-tank brigades. They are definitely useless in the beginning when noone else has tanks. (I realise that you cannot easily see the statistics in Doomsday. It suffices to say that in the beginning of WW II, and especially in the Japanese war, you will not face tanks.) Engineers get strapped on a few divisions taking on fortifications, and on a whole army destined to fight across rivers.

With anti-air and artillery, I am not so systematic; they can get on anyone who is going on the offense. (They are wasted on quick reply groups stationed in the mainland to quell Partisans.)

Personal carrier seems to be specific to Doomsday.

I like to have a few of them in stock, just to have them should I need them. But paratroopers and marines are very expensive. In the European war, they are probably not so useful; I just started Operation Sea Lion in Plymouth and Sheffield with regular troups without problems. I understand that for the war in the Pacific, marines are a must.

Marines are also very good in swamps. For rivers, engineer brigades and the leader's trait Engineer work.
