Have you built any in your life?
What good is it for?
IMO dropping 1 infantry is pretty ridiculous.

Hi tehfreak,

your right, dropping ONE is ridiculous... but having lots of them and droping LOTS of infantry might work well. Some people say they are good on island maps... but I don't use them anyway. Most of the time, I even don't research the tech for giving me the Helicopters :-)

Same for me. I'm not sure but the last time I checked copters had a ridiculous dropping range also.

Nope don't use em. Never really had a need to excpet one time but then it really didn't even work. I just had to defend a city real quick but the unit got beat so....

I have built one, just to see what it looked like on the map. :D

Well, I did use one to drop a few Marines behind enemy lines since it was the first time I had ever had a game last long enough to get to them... but it did work, and since I dropped Marines (needed the offensive power and my tanks weren't in range) it set me up in a good position to cut down a counterattack a couple of turns later.

I can't think of any use for them because of the pathetic range. Then again, I'm a newb. I tried putting them on a carrier but you're not allowed to. Too bad, they would've been very useful for naval attacks if you could do that.

From the Rhye's of Civilization thread:

I don't know if the helicopters in Rhye's are any different than the ones in standard Conquests, but I know I use helicopters in standard Conquests an awful lot when I play island maps. I simply find it much much easier to use helicopters to transport three TOW Infantry units to a newly conquered town than it is to correctly time and keep track of transports full of Mechanized Infantry. (Using the re-base option, not the airdrop one. With the re-base option it can reach any part of the map, and it's cargo stays with it and doesn't use up it's movement - IE, you could put a TOW Infantry unit into a helicopter, re-base the helicopter, wake the TOW Infantry and then fortify him all in one turn.)

Of course, this is only on island maps. On continent maps, it's much easier to use Mechanized Infantry and railroad infiltration than Helicopters and TOW Infantry.

Advanced Flight warfare is much improved in C3C compared to Vanilla CivIII, for a number of reasons:

1) Helicopters can carry three instead of one.
2) Range was increased.
3) Workers can build airfields at the edge of empire, extending the effective range.
4) Lethal aerial bombardment gives Paratroopers a better chance to take cities.

So...helicopters. In Vanilla, I rarely mess with them or research the tech. In C3C, I will use Advanced Flight in certain circumstances.

I find the best way to use them is get as many marines or what ever units you need into them. I usually like 21 men dropping (7 helicopters) take over the city, rush a airport, send the helicopters to the new city, pick them up and continue to advance. You can leap frog and go anywhere in the enemies city.

Advanced flight is the only non-modern deck I have never researched. Neither has the AI ever researched it for me. Strange considering the AIs seem to like amphibious warfare.
