I'm a new member on this board. I used to play many Westwood games. Like CnC, Red Alert, TS, RA2, etc.

My friend told me Civ 2 is a great game. Only it's turn based. I'm more into strategies than rushing, so I decided to give Civ 2 a try. I'm amazed at the details of the game (not graphics though:p but hopefully Civ 3 will change that).

Can anyone help me get a quick start on this game. I know it's very complex, but I'm a fast learner. If anyone can find a beginner guide to Civ 2, please post it here.

Thank you

Hi and welcome. I just joined the forum last month.

If you haven't already, play the tutorial scenario.

My only other tip for starting out is DIPLOMACY!

Thanks everyone!:)

I'm reading the manual right now so it will take me a while. Afterwards I will check out the War Academy.

Oh I got a question. How long is a typical game? Cause RTS game usually last no more than 2 hours. Civ 2 seems like it will take weeks to complete one mission.

Not usually weeks. it really depends on how deeply you want to manage the empire. And how big it is. And how big the AI civs are. In general, I can do it in a few hours, minimum.

I concur. Unless you have nukes. In which case no one needs diplomacy.

OCC (one city challenge) is a fast game because you only have one city and very few units to move around. It's also a good way to learn some aspects of CivII that are less conspicuous in a regular game. Have fun! :D

I posted the thank you post on a new thread.:o

Still getting used to the forum system.:)

EDIT NOTE: I merged the 2 threads into 1. :) ~TF

Welcome, Tesla Tank. BTW, as you have specific questions in Civ II, the CivFanatics "Search" function is a good way to pull up all scattered posts about a given issue, even if its buried deep!

Hey, Welcome to civ fanatics center,

one important thing at the start of a new game is EXPANSION!!!

In civ2 a quick start is important, i will usually build my city right on the spot, unless its a horrible position, just remember to keep building settlers and explore to find good places for cities.
