Hi guys I’m new here, although I’m not new to Civ.
I just recently started playing Civ 3 again, after a long spell conquering medieval Europe (MTW).
I first started playing Civ with Civ 2 and played it to death, but after getting Civ 3 just after it first came out, I just couldn’t get into playing it. Problem being the editor is so good I just couldn’t stop tampering with the rules, and so never finished a full game.
However now I’m back for another try.

Just a couple of questions.

1. Has anybody here actually conquered a huge map with 16 civs on deity?
2. Do any of you guys play with map and communication trading disabled, I do and find it makes exploration more of a challenge.

Dave.

Welcome to the forum!

I have never completed a deity game....ever....

I dont play with anything disabled, though I very rarely give my map to other civs.

1. Yes, but not me. I don't have the patience to play on a Huge map, and have enough trouble with warfare as it is.

2. Probably, as this is a fairly large community.

I've never completed a Regent game.

:wavey:
Welcom Dave P

I know what you mean adout playing more with the editor than the game.
and I've been playing Civ3 & PTW for two years and don't feel ready to go to deity. I have not tried playing with Comm. turned off, but I may. Do you mean all trading off, or just maps?

I've never even tried Deity - and I don't plan to soon... Best level I've beaten is Monarch. :crazyeye:
I don't play with comm/map trading disabled, but I play with Conquests, so you can't trade maps or communications until the late middle ages.

Welcome Dave :wavey: . Huge maps take FOREVER to finish :( . I usually
play until victory is absolutely certain ;) . I have won on emperor on the
bigger maps, but it takes a long, long time and I don't have the patience  . I know what you mean about the editor too :mischief: .

I do'nt play anything larger than a large map because on a huge map the modern age is so slow. Butmy first deity win was, Large Map, Americans, Random Civs, No Barbs, Continents.

@Adamantinus.

I just meant com & map trading disabled. However, I have come up against a problem with it today.
I unchecked the flags for them in the advances page of the editor (map making) & (writing) and played the campaign through until the 1600s.
I'm first to navigation and quickly across the oceon to discover the new world. I make contact with the Romans and the Aztecs, and look forward to exploiting them, but shock horror, 2 turns later I'm on the foreign advisor screen, and discover that 4 of the 5 civs on my continent have peace with the guys across the pond.
Now this is a little strange seeing as only one of them has the technology to actually get across the oceon.

I'm pretty sure I had this working fine when I used to play before. I think last time I may have moved the check flags on to much later advances, as I think the program gets confused if no advance allows these two aspects of the game.
It is worth looking at though as exploration takes on a much greater part of the game with com & map trading off. In order to explore new continents it involves the use of explorers and the making of right of passage agreements.

I've won emperor level on huge map w/16 civs. The first time was as Japan.

But the only deity game I ever won was tiny world playing as Aztecs, it's been about a mounth or so ago. Won before 1 AD.
