Help a Newbie with trade plz

Greetings... I am having the hardest time establishing my trade network it seems. I end up losing money fairly quickly.. I build cities on the Coast and take advantage f the Plots (squares) that have coins on them..

I notice that the AI players all have the Arrow Triangle.. which i assume means they have an established trade route. I have yet to have that Icon next to My Score.. What am I doing wrong?

I have all my cities connected by roads and also trading with another Civilization but yet no Arrow Triangle

Any suggestions would be great.

I think that triangle means,they are trading.After you begin trading,you get that arrow too.

Trade is important but not the most important for getting money. Make sure you are building cottages too.

your cities can have trade if:

- they are near the sea (ocean) and you have researched sailing
- they are connected to another city with a river
- they are connected to another city with a road
