Help: Attaching models to preexisting unit skeletons

The easiest way would be, import a unit/model with the skeleton you want to use, attach your new model to the imported one, then delete the unneeded geometry from the old imported unit. You will probably have to adjust vertex weights to make the right bones affect the right parts of the model.
