Help for Low End Computer?

My computer is pretty low end when it comes to graphics and gaming seeing as I've got a GeForce 7100 mad, so Civ IV is pretty laggy when played. Is there anything I can do besides turn down the graphics setting to improve performance while playing? It seems like there are usually mods of some sort you can download for other games to help low end computers such as mine, so hopefully Civ IV has something like this as well. By the way, my Civ version has already been patched up to 1.74, in the hopes that would help some.

Graphics Set:
GeForce 7100/nForce 610
4GB RAM
Intel Pentium E5200 Dual-Core

Try playing small or tiny maps with the low graphics settings I play on a laptop with far less memory and I don't have problems with lag.

Also if you notice the lag getting bad, try exiting the program and restarting the game. Sometimes that helps improve performance.

If you can, you might consider getting a replacement for the card. $40 will get you something like a 9400GT card - more than enough to run Civ4.
