Rather than use adaware or spybot, use both. Each misses things that the other doesn't. And remember - just like a virus scanner, they work much better if you keep them up-to-date with the definition files.

Good advice from ainwood...in fact, don't be afraid to run each more than once. Sometimes they pick up something on the second pass that they missed on the first.

And keeping the software up to date is vital. Check out the virus information pages at both Symantec and McAfee (Network Associates) sometime. You'll see why updating is so important.
