I'm trying to link to an attachment in a pm. Can anyone help?

I use the paperclip icon to upload an attachment, but later I can't find it in my attachments listings. Furthermore, when I insert the link and test it, it works, but than after I send the pm, the link no longer works.

Very frustrating.

I believe you need to upload the attachment somewhere. Possibly to a forum post so it gets into your list of attachments. Then you can link to it!

Interesting! I don't even see a paperclip when I'm composing a PM.

No, you're right. The paperclip is in the forum posts. That's where I upload (or so it seems). Then, I copy the url and go into my pm and try to make a link. It works. I do the preview message. The link is there and I can download back to my desktop. It all works fine. Then I send it. Then I go to sent mail and bring the pm back and the link is still there but no longer works.

Anyway, obviously, I'm doing something wrong, especially because when I go into my user and look at my attachments, the one I paperclipped isn't there.

It's because you didn't actually KEEP the upload from the forum post. In other words, did you actually "post" to the thread. I know when I tried to do the same thing, I got the same result. I guess we'll have to wait for the actual team threads to open!!!

Upload them to a public server somewhere? There are plenty of them around.

PS. There is an alternative - Use the Upload File option at the bottom of every forum page.

I neglected to mention that one of the first things I did was try the Upload File option, but all 10 times I have gotten this message:

LowtherCastle, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

@LC, Is it really so great that it is for MW eyes only?

Yes, sorry, I'd forgotten. After the recent hack attack, the file upload facility was disabled. You will have to use ImageBucket or one of the other services.

FiveAces may be a spy!
