going gambling next thursday.

anyone know any good theories/systems for beating the roulete table?

my main criteria is that it doesnt require a HUGE amount of cash.
then there's a time constraint.

if you've got a system that does require a large amount of cash, please share it. maybe i can scale it down and make it work.

Um, don't start?
There is no way - the house pays out 36/37ths of what's bet, with the payout equivalent to the odds for the 36 numbers (e.g. you get 6-1 if you cover 6 numbers, 2-1 if you go red-black).
The house wins on 00 - that's how they make their money

... or own the casino

Gambling will hurt you moral, but I recommend searching google for black jack charts and card counting. That way will you be able to fool the greedy casino.

Given your Civ background, might I suggest you move over to the Craps tables. Watch the table for 2 rounds. Much like our RNG, you'll see tendancies develope among the rollers. Play the streaks. Doesn't have the safe odds like Blackjack but then, if you're hot on Roulette, you're not looking for safe odds. I find Craps to be a happy middle ground...plus, it's always more fun when gamblers have a direct role in the outcome.

well, since you guys are no help. here's what i came up with. it's probably already around in some book or something, but if it isnt, i'm copywriting/ patenting it. lol.

been figuring out ways to beat the dang thing. got a system figured out for now that can win about $100 assuming the following is true:
1. the minimum bet is $5 (which i'm not sure of, could be 10 or even 25 for all i know)
2. that out of the 38 numbers on the wheel (they use 2 zeroes here) that it will hit the number i keep playing on atleast once in 78 rolls (twice the average that it should be)
3. that i can stand loosing upto $1000 without chickening out and leaving.
4. that i have enough time (not on my own time table there)
5. that they will allow me to have a pad of paper to keep track of my progress, cause the system can be hard to keep in my head.

the basics are:
put $5 on a "lucky" number.
keep putting the $5 on that same number till you've lost $80 (thats the 180 you'll get when it wins less the 100 you wanna walk away with)
then start putting $6 on that same number,
when you've lost 116 total (216 you'll get for winning a $6 bet, less the 100 you're gonna win) up the bet to $7.

and so on.

after 78 rolls if you still aint won you'll be upto betting $31 on your number and will be out 1008 dollars. if the 78th roll hits you'll get 1116 dollars and be up 108, but the big problem is that if it keeps not hitting your number then after a while you'll be betting huge sums on each roll (in order for a win to pay you back everything you put in) and the "invested" amount might outgrow the amount of cash you have available to invest, at that point you'll have to quit while still being in the hole a bunch of cash (having not won a single time).

all you need to do is once you win, start over. the only reason i say that it'll win $100 is that that's how much you'll get each time around, and the amount you wanna win determines how far in the hole you can go.

Roulette? Sorry can't help you, I find it boring. The few times I go to the casino here I go at night so I can sit at the poker tables to play regular poker or poker grand prix. That's were the fun is!

You never win - duh! Statistics, man. Find the mean of all possible outcomes multiplied by their respective probability. That's the "expected value". As long as the House charges you slightly more than that to play, they can't help but make a profit.

There IS a game where you can beat the house and that's blackjack. But you need a hell of a memory.

By the way, your "beat roulette" system doesn't work. The expected value doesn't change no matter how long you wait or how much money you put into the system. If you really want to play the odds, then just put down the minimum bet each time and leave the moment you win something. The only way to beat roulette is to hope for a lucky number before the House's expected value catches up with you. In the long run, however, that ain't never gonna happen.

Loosers ;)

If you do have enought time, patience. Wait until it has been either red or black for (at least) five times straight, then bet on the other color. If it fails, double your bet and place it again on the same color. I often go to our local casino and apply this. Works like a charm. But, patience.

wicked, your system has one major flaw. if after you start placing the bet, lets say you place $20 (that's how much you'll win for waiting all that time btw) if it gets the wrong color 4 more times, you've bet like 20 + 40 + 80 + 160 + 320 = 620 and you'll still (once it hits) get 20$ profit (meaining you'll loose 620, but win 640). so your "return on investment" sucks.
and because your "average" wait for your winning hit is so short it can easily sway to 4 or 5 times the wait you're expecting.
on mine, it going 100 something times without hitting is literaly impossible odds wise.

pontith, you're just wrong. if you'd think about the systems. both mine and Smurphs work fine if you have a good supply or cash and time reserves and dont sway from the system.
they are both 100% guaranteed to win as long as:
1. you dont run out of money
2. you dont run out of time
3. the casino doesnt kick you out cause they know you're beating the system.

basicaly if you dont leave while you're loosing, you'll win.

Practise on a simulator, like ceasar palace on nintendo, it fun and cost nothing.

Always choose a color.

If you lose put double the amount you lost on the same color again, if you lose again put double the doubled amount on that same color again.

And so on, you'll always get yu money back at least. And maybe more

A lot of people got very rich doing that, serioussly ;)

The problem with that system is that after a mere 3-4 losses you're bet will be higher than the table maximum.

Forget playing to win, just enjoy the game for fun. Set an amount aside strictly for playing roulette and use only that much. If it's gone, then don't gamble anymore. Consider th emoney gone before you even play.

Play black jack instead. Its not as hard as you think to count cards. There is no one on Earth who can count all the cards(Besides savants), but what matters is the high cards, and if you learn the game, you can count how many high cards are there and find the probability to win. You wait for when the probability is good and bet more. When it goes down you bet less. No get rich quick thing, but it works. Helps to have someone else away from the table that monitors all the cards being played(in case your eyes aren't fast enough) signal to you. Reminds me of the movie Better Luck Tomorrow, or the book Bringing Down the House.

The best game in a casino if you want to win or play longest with your money is black jack. The % of money the house is expected to get back is 5% .1% if you know how to play and -1% if you can count cards.

I don't like betting, but I do like playing BlackJack on my calculator during classes!!!

Time for a RG Naive Question: What is Roulette (besides being some kinda betting game, I mean How do you play it, what are the rules, etc?)?
