Okay, I'm a poster-boy for the "just one more turn" that lasts several hours. I'm not getting enough sleep, chores are falling behind, wife is irritated, etc. etc.

Has anyone created a "Save and Exit Game in X Turns" mod/utility??? Sort of like the timer, but this would save the game for you and exit to the desktop. It might save my health, my marriage, . . .

Maybe you should write a mod that requires your wife to enter her password every 10 turns.

I have the same problem, BTW. Hell we all do.

Put an alarm clock that beeps every ten minutes or so !!!!!

I have that problem too ... but now its more with this forum .... I really spend too much time here :p

I never play on worknights and when I promised to do something with my girlfriend. I never really have an urge to play the game, but once I start I have difficulties to quit. That's why I play small maps. I usually finish a game between 3 to 6 hours.

Replace one song from each era with a piece of music you REALLY HATE. When that comes on, time to wrap it up before you have to hear the whole song.

I nominate "Lovin' You" -- Minnie Riperton.

I had that problem too, but now it's solved...

my wife is gone.

(just kiddin')

Seriously, I have tried hard to get her involved with Civ since Civ3, but no way... at least I managed to "recruit" my little daughter by now, so that makes things easier... you know, "Civ is great for teaching history" and stuff...

welcome to the club!

You need my solution ---> Have someone hide the disk.

I hide the disk every morning so my girlfriend can't play and has to do her homework. Then I sneak it out of whichever CD/DVD case I hid it in at night if I/she/we want to play.

I play a "similar" game, but it's with a sausage.

But, to the topic at hand. Definitely went through this with my wife. But, it wasn't so much that I was not doing things that needed to be done. I am responsible. It was the fact that if I had nothing to do, I chose playing Civ rather than sit beside her while she read a book, etc. Now however, my sons are gaming. Bbwwwhahahahahahaha! :D

I found a short term solution. Buy a new car. before you plunk down $27000( or sign your life away) you are going to want to do lots of research to find the right vehicle. then you need to shop around to find the best price. Then when you get the car you will spend your first few weeks driving it, washing it, taking pictures of it, washing it, waxing it and washing it.
Trust me you wont have any time for civ for about a month. It just seems like there should be a cheaper treatment option.

Sitting too long in front of your PC playing civ? Make it a test of endurance, get rid of your chair !!! Let's see how long you can stand in front of your PC :)

With time, you might even be able to skip a session at the gym per week; your leg muscles won't need the workout :)

Another trick: use sleeping pill. Take a sleeping pill when you start a session, you can only hope to play for one hour before it really starts to kick in

That's the funniest thing i've read in weeks. Actually made me laugh out loud in front of the PC.

On topic, I've managed to get my gf to play Civ. The key was pitching the right aspects of the game. She doesn't like war or anything like that, but didn't know where was a whole diplomatic side to the game.

She also can't be arsed to fanny around with 20 + citys and tons of units to defend them, but again, didn't know about One City Challenge.

She now plays OCC, and goes for diplomatic victory... and because she plays, she doesn't mind me playing as if she's not doing anything else, she doesn't mind watching and learning what I do.

Yeah! I learned that the ageless demigods who rule over all empires spend their time carefully assigning the jobs of their citizens to create Great Artists that can take over land without war! And Hollywood sells its movies abroad and requires no legal tender save crabs!

Thats a brilliant excuse :)

I can imagine at school:-

Teacher: So its is most widely believed that the Pyramids where completed in around 2650BC during the reign of Pharaoh Khufu, and no slaves were used in the process of construction..
Little Daughter: Oh no miss that's no true
T: Pardon, how d'you know differently
LD: Because i watched my daddy build them and he used slaves to finish them quickly...

A fine excuse :)

The next day at school:

Teacher: Then Rome fell in 476 AD to the Barbarians, throwing Europe into the Dark Ages, yes I see that hand
Little Daughter: Um that can't be possible, I watched Daddy conquer them in 600 BC, so the dates not right, and my dad might eat like one, but he is definitely not a barbarian.

re: school ~

I remember giving a presentation as a junior in high school about the original Civ, loaded it up and played a game, right there in class. --same school where we watched "The Usual Suspects" in AP Euro History. Now that's learning! :goodjob:

Note: child placed in Catholic school for comedic effect

Dear Mr. Jahns,

We regret to inform you of an incident that occured during today's Bible Studies class. When we asked your daughter to give a presentation on Moses, we were appalled when she infomed us that Moses had been born under the shadow of Stonehenge and grew up to build a holy shrine to either Buddhism or Hinduism. When we took her aside and asked her if she took the class seriously, she responded that she believed Theology to be very important. We were pleased to see that she recognized the importance of theological studies to Christianity, but were aghast when she explained that it is further important for "a very good war-time civic." She then horrified us further by explaining the importance of Theology in forming propagandistic Divine Right theories and in the foundation of Islam. We can find no other explanation for this beyond demonic possession. We reccomend that you have a priest bless your house immediately.

I'm a highschool student. I'm only allowed to play on weekends and cuz my AP and IB testing is approaching, it'll be two or three weeks till I can play

This game cured my addiction to Elder Scrolls 4:Oblivion but that's kinda like getting over smokin' cigarettes by taking up crack.

I would have replied to this topic sooner, but I was waiting until I got to a good stopping point in the game.

Hmmm stopping point ! whats that ?

Ohh like when you wake up with the keyboard inprinted in your forehead, and its 6:45 am ?
