<FONT face="Times New Roman"> <FONT size="2"> <FONT COLOR="Navy"> Hey, I'm a long time Civ player... I probably own four or five different versions of Civ... (I was young, I didn't realize I could get a free upgrade for the minor changes...) I just found this site today, and was quite excited... I am by far more Experienced in older version of Civ than Civ II MGE, Sadly enough, I bought it last christmas, but haven't gotten the chance to get back in the swing till now... Anyhoo, I digress from my point... I know the basics, but I'm behind on the changes... I know I'll learn them as I go, but I don't have the free schedule I used to of playing all day long

and I am going to be playing against the guy that introduced civ to me in the first place... I don't wish to get completely slaughtered. I played civ II a while back a couple of times right when it first released, but for all intents and purposes, pretend I've only played (and played well) civ I, and give an out of the loop guy some advice... Thanks! </FONT f>

<FONT face="Times New Roman">I've seen the "War Academy" mentioned in several posts, but have not been able to locate it on the site... I tried to follow your link, but, it just gave me an error message saying the page wasn't found. Any other ideas? (I've been reading the posts ever since I found this page today, (trying to educate myself) I'd appreciate any thoughts anybody has off the top of their head about strategy/tips/exact differences between Civ I & II Enlighten

Try this one http://www.civfanatics.com/civ2strategy1.shtml

Main differences between Civ I and Civ II are new, better and different units. Some of the wonders are different.

Thats all I remember off the top of my head.

I do know that Civ II is much better than Civ I and much better to play.

Hey, Thanks! The link worked just fine, I think my problem yesterday is that I must have been using Netscape 6 as my Internet Browser. I'm reading through what's posted at the war academy now... but if anyone has any other info they think will help me out, pass it on! (I keep seeing posts about 'ICQ' in the Multiplayer Forums... what's that all about?)

there's alot of new info for me to soak up, but I look forward to playing MGE with all you 'experts' out there...

Welcome, Gismon. I think you'll find folks here not only fanatical but also extremely helpful.

My favorite aspect of this site is not multiplayer but the Game of the Month. Try it. It will be great way to exercise your developing Civ2 skills. A new one starts at midnight!

A sense of tense anticipation fills the air, as the civilized gaming world awaits the arrival of the new GOTM!

It wasn't your browser, just a slight typo in the link, but he fixed it now.

BTW, this will be my first attempt at the GOTM, so we shall see how we do!

I had no idea that GOTM was so popular, the rookie epidemic is far worse than I thought. I think it has turned into a pandemic.

... pandemic.

Quite an impressive word, coming from you, Eyes... an obvious repository of intelligence!

Maybe if you used some of your self-expressed talents in a constructive way, it might assist some of the "rookies" you consistently disparage in this and other threads.

By the way, it is fortunate that with you being a legend in your own mind, you were never a "rookie", LOL!

Thanks for the suggestion Cactus Pete! I'm trying to read all the info on the site so I'm sure I would have found out about the game of the month eventually, but now I know much quicker. From a previous games stats, I'm guessing you enjoy game of the month because you're pretty good at it.

I have plenty of time while I am 'working' to read posts/news... I just wish I could eek out a few more hours of actually playing the game. (I'd be doing this at 'work' as well, but then I'd be fired and have to find myself real

work. I'm sure there are a lot of you out there that know exactly what I mean... (Now the decision is, should I play the Game of the Month, or start climbing the Ladder?)

Oh, and as an Update, I played the guy who introduced me to Civ, and ruthlessly annhiliated him within 30 minutes of play! I'm generally not quite so vicious, but it sure felt good. We're playing another game now on Deity Level, as allies against the other 5 AI Civ's... Definitely isn't holding the same thrill though... I need to play with real people... not the worthless computer. Any takers?

Oh yeah, as another request, will someone tell me how to use ICQ to find all these Civ Players y'all keep talking about? I've never used it before, and am having trouble. Thanks!

The GOTM can be done at your liesure, and it's easy to make it fit almost any schedule. There is also ongoing discussions the the GOTM section.

Dogberry seems to be a cheerleader for getting people started with MP. There's a whole set of MP discussions in the Forum, too.
