Help me name my band!

Of course stormerne gives lots of hits on Google. They're nearly all for me!

"erne" means eagle. Merriam Webster's dictionary says:

There's some really good names here. I knew I could rely on you guys! When the band gets together later this week, I was fearing we'd have very little to consider in the way of names - now we have a huge number!

Now I can't promise what we'll choose (because other band members may have their own ideas too) but I'm sure I can come up with something in the way of a tawdry prize if we do choose one of yours.

a name of the place you are coming from should work great. then will the audience know that it's old solid men doing something they are knowledgeable at and not some some young punks.

Seriously, good luck with the band - always good to see someone getting up and doing it. Does your set list include 'Cocaine' by JJ Cale?

As for names, I agree with the consensus that Stormerne is a good one - if the band (or you) don't like the idea of using your name, anything with storm in it would still be good.

It's not a bad idea to think about a name that will be easy to make a logo for - the best example is the classic band in (what I think is) your genre, the Hamsters - they've got loads of mileage out of hamster-related images and slogans (and the great title for their Jimi Hendrix covers album - Electric Hamsterland)

I also like the idea of bands which are named after songs, though right now the only example I can think of is Wrathchild (dodgy 80s glam metal band named after an Iron Maiden song). Note that you do not have to be anything like the style of music of the song you are named after.

Other suggestions include Cancelled, or Sold Out - at least you'd get lots of publicity. The other one on that line is Special Guests - I've seen them play loads of times, but they never seem to get any headline gigs. You could always try Free Beer - you'd get loads of people turning up to your gigs, but might have difficulty getting bookings.

I think simply taking some foreign word would be a good idea, can sound so mysterious and interesting when it really only means somehting like:

Sultan: I think calling a band "Loki" would be 'tempting fate' too far. I can just imagine the power failures!

Edward: I like alliteration and some of my own suggestions use that technique.

animepornstar: What's this "old solid men"? Yeah, you're right - I'm an old rocker, though some of us die off occasionally like Rory Gallagher.

Just as an update... we named the band "Mad Panic".
Yes I know, I know - it doesn't quite fit all the rules. But it works.

P.S. The lead singer won the tawdry prize.
