Team,

Please help me get rifles at turn 110-120. For some reason I do not have Babylon (even though I preordered :( ).

I usually play with France, China, Persia , or Greece, usually get attacked around turn 110 but thats when i roll out with long swordmen. what exactly am i doing wrong?

I am playing on Emperor

Babylon was not a preorder bonus, it was part of the Special Edition, you had to pay extra for it. That aside, there isn't really a secret to getting riflemen in that timeframe, just focus on science buildings, befriend a couple maritime city states to get your pop up as high as possible, and stay on the bottom side of the tech tree.

There's really nothing I can say not covered in my game thread. I don't believe you need follow the exact same strategy to achieve your goal though.

It's very hard to tell what someone is doing wrong without seeing their game :/ Just remember it is only 15 techs to Rifling. If you focus on it, and use free techs from Great Scientists and Rationalism social policy, you can get to it very quickly.

I usually bee line to calendar to get stonehendge then then proceed with the basic tree then start focusing on the bottom tree.

what holds me up is what to do after steel because i skip all the other prereqs to gunpowder.

Hrm maybe don't get stonehenge? You'll need to spend the hammers elsewhere to get enough early game expansion to get the science you need.

I've never done it peacefully, I got early science by warrior/swordsman rushing to get puppet cities, and not getting Calendar and Writing until after Iron Working. The only techs I got that were not on the way to Rifling are Pottery, Calendar and Writing.

At emperor difficulty, getting the Great Library is definetely more worth it than the Stonehendge, and even so many would argue that you are better off building settlers than the Great Library. Have you been using Maritime states correctly? They are very important for the rifleman rush; make sure you save up on your money to pay them and make sure you go up the Patronage social tree ASAP, until Philanthropy, and buy as many Maritime states as possible. With their extra food build libraries in every of your cities and get your 2 scientists ASAP; once you have enough scientists riflemen will come very quickly. The hardest part is getting enough money to pay your Maritime states; trading resources has been nerfed after the patch but it is still a very important source of money. For an easy time, try playing China or Songhai; these 2 have an easier time producing money than the other civs, or try to abuse Greece's or Siam's UA.

The fastest way to Rifling goes through Scientific Revolution (2 free techs) in Rationalism tree. Spending culture points to Patronage is probably suboptimal.
