currently we're discussing on which difficulty level we want to play in the gotm.

about 2/3 are for monarch, 1/3 for regent.

so i would like to play a game with completely the same settings and the same starting position but on different levels.
this way we could adjust the gotm to the different experience levels without loosing comparability too much.

the prob now is that none of us has an idea how to do it without the editor. and for this me will wait long, i guess

any suggestions?
any help would be aprreciated :goodjob:

I'm not sure how, but I believe there is a poor-man's work-around method.

(1) choose a fan-made map
(2) post settings, except for difficulty level
(3) participants set game up per posted settings and select their own difficulty level

Drawback --- starting locations will be random

yeah, i know, i was even considering making several restarts in oder to get nearly the same starting location for the different levels.

actually i didn't do it because lot's of people can not download my savegames (see deity-thread)  :crazyeye:
i still have no clue why... (yes, i have v1.21g;) )

random starting locations are imho just too much for comparison reasons...

i was rather thinking like

a) take a savegame, change the difficulty level by hexeditor or so

b) do as you described and the change the coordinates to the same x,y.

or lets wait for the editor

Shogoth,

What about the fan-made map option? Many of them have predetermined starting locations, I think.

If we hadn't just done an Earth map you could use that and the Civ Placement Tool (in VPC) or somesuch to control the starting locations.

ah, i didn't know there are maps with fixed starting positions.
by now i downloaded about six 100x100 (medium) maps ("natural ones") and this evening i'll try if any has fixed starting position.
