Hi all
I am playing civilization II: Test of Time on the Pc and habe selected the extended original game, however upon playing through there doesn't seem to be any extension, after landing the spaceships, i can now view the other planet with the brittl or whatever race on it and thats it.
In view of technology advances i am up to future technology 21 and i dont have an option to research any of the others described in the technology tree such as bioplasmas etc

have i done something wrong, do i have to do something to enable it or do i just have to keep researching up to future technology xxx until something happens.

would appreciate all feedback as this is really frustrating

cheers

havnt installed the patch as such, as "test of time" said you didnt need one it came with it, as one game.

can't research whatever i need to teleport or build transporters can only research "future technologies"., though i can see what i need to reeserach in the info tree so the game obviously knows about them.

any ideas?

should there be a patch?

From the ToT manual:
""Transport Sites are terrain improvements that allow travel between maps. Once you have the requisite technology, your Engineers can build Quantum Teleportation (QT) Portals."
"Starports function just like airports, with the important difference that they can move units between two worlds."
"...You still have two ways to win, however. You can conquer the new world in the same way you did the Earth... Alternatively you can continue the research race towards the goal of Transcendence..."
Taken from pages 136 and 137. Unfortunately I don't have my poster with advances. I believe the first tribe to land a space ship gets a free advance which leads to the other new advances, not sure if its a researchable tech once the first tribe gets it. You may have to trade for/steal it. Also there is definetly a patch, version 1.1, make sure you go and get it.

I've just had a similar problem in my last game.
Definitely chose Extended game but on my spaceship landing that was the end of the game, the Power Graph came up and I got my final score.
The alien race showed up for a while during the game in the Advisors somewhere and at some point were replaced by the Sioux who were definitely not on my original Earth.
I've never installed a patch but in the past the new planet has appeared fine and the games continued.
Bizarre and also a bit of a bummer.

Johnny that sounds more like an issue of where you saved the game. If you save it in the extended folder than that should not happen if you saved it elsewhere then that is likely to happen, if it opens at all. Also the ToT 1.1 patch can be found here: http://www.civfanatics.com/civ2downloads.shtml

Still not managed to sort ine out, i havnt installed the patch but as johnymiller says he didnt and in the past his has worked fine., my game is saved in the extendededition folder, and i can view theother planet and still am playing now up to future technology 45, is there something you need before you can research ultrastring theory, as the only choice i am getting is another future technology but when i look at a goal it says to research unltrastring theory. The only thing i'm wondering is i didnt actually win the space race, could that be a factor?

please im getting desperate

Tried stealing, there is nothing to steal.
johnnymiller said he didnt need the patch for it and shouldnt at least some of the extended edition be on the test of time disc thats why i bought it.

????

Try to find out what version it is you have (Go the the Game menu, it's the title of the Game Options dialog).

If indeed your version already included the patch that's one thing less to worry about, if it didn't you absolutely MUST get the patch.

Yes that can be a factor. Maybe one of your opponents has discovered Transcendence already. That would end the game.

How can you see the other planet if you've never been there (or does the Apollo Program reveal all)?

It says on the box "no downloads needed!, play one of four different games, the original, the extended original which continues with the colononization of alpha centurai, the midgaurd scenario, or the sci-fi game..."

I have just played it again and won the space race and still makes no difference can't research anything like bioplasmas, cybernetics, or ultrastring theory etc, so can't create units or advances like starports listed in the city improvements list.

As soon as my spaceship lands on alpha centurai, (whether won space race or not) allows you to toggle between earth map and that of apha centurai, can see brt'll race on there but can't do anything else, have got up to future technology 69 now and still no options i dont know what im doing wrong.

I started a thread about this a few days ago, and have since figured out you need to land your ship on Centaurus before the game "ends." My first time through, my ship landed in 2028, and I could do nothing on Centaurus, nor research anything but Future Tech. But yesterday I made to sure to concentrate on the space race, kept my nose out of wars, and landed my ship in 1912. I'm now 30 years into my quest to bend the Treg to my will. :borg: :whipped:

But I have a question of my own now...the Americans are due to land their ship in about 3 years...will they be colonizing along side of me, or does anyone else get a chance to colonize after the human player lands?
