Right now, I build my city.. then build a warrior to search out stuff, then a defense guy (usually hoplite cuz i play greeks), another worker, then when my city gets to three I build a settler.. usually I keep doing this with every city.. I build the pyramids almost always, and a temple in every city, but I'm having some real troubles picking up tempo, I can never really get anywhere. what am I doing wrong!

building another worker before building a settler, slows down your expansion very much! (workers cost one pop point) I usually don't bother building workers until I have a few cities going.

You should build a granary after you build your first or second settler so cities grow twice the speed. Don't try to build temples and wonders too early...your main objective should be to grab as much land as you can at this point.

i wouldnt think grabbing land would be a problem if im playing archipelago with 4 other civs

You sound like you're doing what I do, everything except the hoplite and the extra worker. I usually go for a warrior, warrior, settler, send out settler and warrior, and just follow that pattern 'til I have about four cities, then pyramids in cap city. Continue to spread until I can build temples, then build them in every city. I've played this stratagy in pretty much every game. Latest game, won it easily (UN, just MPP and RoP everyone, instant victory). Playing afterwards can help you later on too. I'm planning on slowly taking over each and every other civ now, just finished with the Carthagians. Only visible problem would be the Russians constantly getting furious with me.

MPP? RoP? I'm not familiar with many civ3 terms..

right now i'm playing multiplayer with a friend against the max computers, im allied with everyone and im "buying them out", giving them techs + contact + demanding in exchange for all their cash, they seem to be stagnant in growth now

Mutual Protection Pact, Right of Passage. This forum really is starting to bug me. Sign in, take two minutes to type, tells you to sign in once more, then won't post the post because a failure in the system. They can be found at the top of the bargaining screen once you get the techs needed.

darious001 I have found that that always happens to me if I've clicked on the link in the mail sent to my hotmail account. if I go through the old way of civfanatics.com then forums then where ever I want to go then it always works. but if you click on the link sent in the mail notifying you of a post you are subscribed too then you won't be able to.
