I am about to get Civ IV for Christmas. But there's one thing that just won't stop bothering me. It's driving me nuts: the size of soldiers/workers/tanks, etc. ! They're as big as the buildings. It looks like a great game, but if there's a way to do this, would a kind soul explain in detail and simply how to create smaller units to this n00b?

You might ask this question in the C&C forums. Since the only way to change the size is to change the file with the use of a 3D Program.

All strategy games have scale issues -- the game designers have to balance realism with practicality. SimCity used to drive me crazy too, for the same reason.
Microsoft tried to stay true to scale with the first Close Combat game, but the soldiers came out so tiny that the game mags took to calling it "Ants at War".
I'd say go ahead and buy the game -- you will soon forget about the scale issue. There's enough other things to worry about, esp at the higher levels!

It's a pet peeve. Would someone give instructions with this mod Julian Pointed out? Thanks by the way...

Just install and run it, it's really simple. You will have some sliders which adjust building/city/unit size etc. Just don't make them differ too much -- first time i tried i made my units too small compared to cities and it was hard to tell if they were actually one or two tile away from enemy city.. not a good thing.

Okay. What's the smallest I can make them without having extreme difficulties?

Also, can you name your own country in CivIV? I came up with some cool ones.

I'm not sure, I just use the default. It's really up to you about what is "too small".

Do you mean just renaming a civilization? Yes, you can do that. When you start a new game, the last screen it shows you is one where you can enter custom names for the leader name, adjectives, and that sort of stuff. You can also rename cities easily in-game. Is this what you were asking?

Like naming the entire Civ. I have some cool names, I don't think it's fair to have to be called "The American Empire" or whatever. Also, is there ways to download other nations? Being Jewish myself, I'd like to download Israel.

You can take a look at some of the civilizations here. Installation is really easy, just drop in your ../My Documents/My Games/Sid Meier's Civilization 4/MODS/ folder.
