Help running Civ3 and Conquests on Vista64

Decided to enjoy this game again after an age, I have tried most of the fixes but I cannot get the game to run, I end up with a black screen when trying to launch the game.

I would normally install games to my own folder so D\ Games\ Civ3

So from the CDs I installed Civ3 to the above and then installed conquests everything appeared to be fine so game is installed.

I tried my version of the registry fix I spotted over at steam with new pathways but no joy.

It works perfectly fine on another computer that has XP after I renamed LSANS.fot to -LSANS.fot

Any help appreciated.

Refresh out of sync would cause a black screen. That's all you get? I'd find the conquests.ini file (it probably doesn't exist if you haven't started a game yet) and add the line Refresh=XX, where XX is the refresh rate of your screen.

If it doesn't exist, create the file in the directory with the conquests.exe file. Don't need to be a complete file, just use notepad and put that line in it. The game will fill in the rest.

Also, you're not using some weird resolution, are you?

No that did not work its actually telling me the paths are incorrect so my comp does not want to edit an .ini file I pasted in, going to uninstall. clean the reg and try again.

I have it running on my XP at 1900x 1200 unfortunately it looks too small but I can adjust my screen resolution to try and get a better look but I fear its going to look a wee bit crappy.

Thanks for the help.

Edit: As I am at and I know this is not the appropriate forum but years ago I came across a mod that scaled the units and the cities in Civ4 to look more like Civ3 any idea where that is?

I am having the same problem on my computer running windows. how do i find out my refresh rate?
