HELP!! struggling to get G+K to start up

Ok, this is weird. I've played G+K 3 or 4 times, but on other occasions (like right now) the game refuses to start up?!?!

I don't have any G+K desktop shortcut and can't find it on any Program or Games list.

When I click on an old shortcut, I get the small civ5 box, which asks if i want to start civ5 in DirectX9 or 11. Clicking either, the box diappears and nothing happens (I normally click 9 as the graphics go strange on 11).

I am on a oldish PC and my internet is ssllooowwww but this is doing my head in...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you see the Civ5 process in the task manager?

Can you open Steam and check if not maybe something (e.g. download...whatever) is at the moment going on?

definitely not any in the Application list, and couldn't see it in the Process list

nothing happens when i double click my Steam client desktop shortcut either, but i can (and have) logged into steam online and tried to install steam, it said steam was already on my PC..

i've just double clicked the shortcut, and Launcher.exe (Civ5 launcher) does indeed pop into the Process list, then disappears when i click on DirectX9...and nothing else happens??

It was already reported that just a reinstall could fix such behaviour, so if you have some bandwith left over...

Else you might check if this here fixes the problem.

Ok, i will have a read. The game did start (eventually), but it is abit of a lottery!!
