How do I turn off barbarians, at at the very least how can I weaken them? In previous Civ games I can control the barbarian difficulty, but I can't seem to do that here.

I didn't mind them at first, but lately I'm finding them to be downright unfair which is making the game unfun.

Advanced set up > untick the barbarians box (make sure you dont tick the raging barbarian one by mistake :P).

OMG. I've never seen that option before.

I play in Windowed mode, so I have to scroll down to see all those options -- which I didn't know were there until now.

Thank you!

I hope in a future patch they turn down the strength of them a bit. After the last patch things are a little crazy with the very aggressive barbarians. I never like that I can get my first warrior upgraded to a spearman from some ruins and still can't take on a single brute without taking a big risk.

The early game is pretty much constant warfare for me. You can rush archery and then they aren't too difficult to deal with but it really slows down the early game.

It sure seems as though they spawn more frequently than they did before. On a large map there's a good chance you will find yourself having to deal with them throughout the entire game.

I guess the positive aspect is all the extra gold you get from sacking their endlessly spawning camps.

This.

Barbs off is a good setting if you don't want a big luck factor in your game; the spawns, spawn timing, location distribution, AND rewards for killing them are all variant independent of play choices which makes them bad for MP or competition

Hey, man. I love your Heroclix page. Guess I shouldn't be surprised your a fan of Civ5.

LOL. Thanks. HeroClixWorld was actually for HeroClix mods only, but it's blossomed to what it is today. I also write most of the HeroClix Scenarios on that website.

Hmmm... I wonder if I could create a "Civilzation V" HeroClix Scenario. Then again, if I do that, it just means you'd get attacked by barbarians ever 4 turns and watch your computer opponent fly through the ages since they don't seem to have that problem.

(me = frustrated with barbarians)

You could just turn them off. They're a chancy luck factor in both positive and negative ways; they largely just add noise. This is even more true in the recent patch where skimping on defenses can cause the AI to use its starting units to kill you instantly anyway.

In one of my last games, I sent my warrior west but he found nothing, i send my settler north. End turn. Settle 2 tiles from a camp which was lucky in a sense, but why so early?

Because Barbarians are so plentiful and strong, I find SCOUTS fairly useless -- they die so quickly.

Yes, on higher levels, it's always painful to watch your scout walk right into the loving arms of a barbarian camp that's spawned two extra brutes. haha
