Quick (hopefully) question here. It isn't strictly about Civ IV, but it is a fairly serious problem indirectly relating to the game. If there is a better place for this please send me there.
Last week, I decided to be an idiot and try to manually upgrade my graphics drivers. My card is a Geforce4 MX 440 (not great, but good enough for me), so I went to the NVIDIA website. They claimed that I needed to remove the old graphics drivers, so I did. There were two things with the NVIDIA name on them, NVIDIA Display Drivers, and NVIDIA Windows 2000/XP Display Drivers. I removed the first, and couldn't remove the second, but the site didn't say anything about removing something with that name, so I didn't worry.
Then I proceeded to shut off the anti-virus stuff I had (which it also said to do), and downloaded Forceware 81.85. It seemed to download fine, but when I tried to install it, it tells me I have a device installer error, and that it could not load the installer for display.
Any ideas on what went wrong?
