I was wondering if someone could help me out
CivIV: Warlords fails to launch most of the time (Im lucky if the game launches once from 5 attempts)
It crashes at the point where the Loading screen pops up (The one with Loading written in about 5 different languages) and prior to loading Audio/Python etcThe DVD drive light stays on but there isnt any Hard drive activity
Occasionally the crash produces a Windows loading error, which I can send off to Microsoft (Which Ive done) but it also (more often) hangs on the loading screen and I have to shut it down using the Windows Task Manager (It tends to hand around 8,330 Memory usage mark and then slowly goes up maybe 4k every minute but never loads)
This error will also appear if the game successfully loads and I load a Mod, it will crash again at the language screen
What I know about the issue from trial and error
a) I swapped Cds with my brother and tried running the game with his CD: I still get the problem
b) I uninstalled Warlords and reinstalled Warlords with my Brothers CD: I still get the error
c) My brother doesnt get this problem and he can run Civ4: Warlords using either mine or his own CD without issue
d) I can run pure Civ4 (And other DVD games such as SW Empires at war) with Warlords installed without it crashing (I tested this by booting CivIV 10 times in a row and it loaded successfully every time)
My system
Windows XP
Radeon 9800XT
Creative PC-DVD (This Drive is very old and Im thinking its the likely culprit however it doesnt explain why Warlords sometimes works and why I dont have problems with other DVDs)
1 GB of RAM
Did Firaxis use some sort of new format or security software on the Warlords DVD that they didnt use on the orginal??
Any ideas guys? This is very annoying!
