So, there's a guy. He's caught in some sort of mistake/situation/something. There's another character...girlfriend, maybe? Clearly everyone is waiting for him to cough up some hairball of rationalization/explanation/whatever. Takes a deep breath and says..."I got nothin'."

I've actually taken to using that at those moments...but I CANNOT remember what movie it's from. And the three words, with one being *I*, are just too common for any approach I've taken with a search engine.

Ring any bells?

Sounds like a Bruce Willis line, maybe?

That's a thought.

I've been picking at this like a scab I can't ignore, and have a little upgrade...

It still might be a girlfriend, but it might be more like 'the boss,' and I'm pretty sure it's a two characters caught scene of some kind...where one obviously has no explanation and turns to his buddy that ALWAYS talks their way out of trouble...

Last night I rooted through everything I could find short of watching the movies because I was thinking Brad Pitt and George Cloony in the Ocean's 11 etc movies.

Sure it's a movie and not Chandler Bing towards the end of an episode of Friends?

Well, I'm not sure it's a movie, actually...but I know it's not from Friends as I never watched that.

Cutlass...if I could place it with anything else from the movie I could probably figure it out, but try as I might I just can't. This only came up because I caught myself saying it a couple times and I know that I said it with that "scene from a movie" smirkiness...but then I stopped to think and even though I can hear it as dialog and vaguely recall the scene I can't hear it clearly enough to identify the voice or see it clearly enough to get anything about the characters or actors.

I know it's a male voice. I've thought Clooney as Danny Ocean, for some reason Ryan Reynolds, or Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark. It's that kind of voice. While it does seem like a scene/line that would fit a Bruce Willis character I just can't fit his voice to it. Too nasal.

Case closed.

Woody Harrelson in Now You See Me.

Thanks for the efforts...jogged just enough memory.

And the scene wasn't really much like I described it, but I have a good excuse...

Okay, I got nothin'.

It sounded to me like something you'd hear in a Joss Whedon show. I was thinking Firefly.

I was really thinking about Tony Stark in an Avengers movie. The way the scene actually plays would be right in character as Whedon writes him. A group is confronted by "what's going on here?" and clearly none of them know. When they are all ready to move on one says "wait a minute" and gets everybody to stop and look at him, stretches the moment...and then delivers "I got nothin'" instead of the expected revelation. I could picture Stark doing that any number of times.
